JAMMU: A meeting of District Level Export Promotion Committee was today held here under the Chairpersonship of DC Jammu Avny Lavasa, who is also the Chairman of Committee. The purpose of the gathering was to examine the Jammu and Kashmir trade promotion organization’s (JKTPO) Draught Export Plan for the Jammu district. Sandeep Dubey, the functional manager of DIC Jammu, welcomed the committee members and gave an overview of the meeting’s agenda at the opening. The JKTPO consultant delivered a PowerPoint presentation on the draught district export action plan, outlining the hard and soft measures needed to boost exports of products identified under ODOP, such as basmati rice, and products identified under District as Export Hub, such as mango, dairy products, sozni, and staple. On top of the action plan to produce these items of worldwide quality in order to boost the revenue of local potential exporters, a lengthy discussion was held on increasing the production of Basmati rice and mango. The stakeholder departments were instructed by Deputy Commissioner Jammu to submit short- and long-term action plans with precise targets for the following three years of the designated product to DIC for inclusion in the plan. According to her, in order to expand exports from the district, the plan must contain methods to boost production, improve product quality, form more FPOs, identify cluster zones for export, execute departmental plans, establish market links, use good packaging techniques, etc. The DC also recommended substituting Sozni and stapple for Phulkari since they have higher export potential. Before submitting the draught action plan to the committee, the DDC Jammu ordered the committee members to review the draught export action plan created by JKTPO and offer some insightful comments. She gave JKTPO the go-ahead to share a format with DIC so that it may be used by other departments to obtain accurate data and make plans. The Committee will reconvene to complete the proposal after taking into account feedback from all parties.
