MotoGP: India’s distorted map broadcast live; J&K, Ladakh missing

NEW DELHI : When a distorted map of the nation was shown during a live webcast of the greatest motorcycle racing event on Friday, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were absent from the map, sparking a tremendous uproar ahead of MotoGP's India debut. MotoGP released an apology for the error on its official account on X, formerly Twitter, within hours of the issue being brought to their attention by some social media users. "We sincerely regret to our Indian fans for the earlier map that was shown during the MotoGP broadcast. We've never intended to say anything other than that we appreciate and support the host nation, according to MotoGP."We're excited to be able to enjoy the IndianOil Grand Prix of India with you and we're with you and we're loving our first taste of Buddh International Circuit," it continued. On Friday, practise sessions are scheduled for Moto 2, Moto 3, and MotoGP. The major races are set for Sunday, while qualifying will take place on Saturday. For the first time since the 2013 Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix, which was cancelled from the schedule owing to monetary, tax, and administrative concerns, India will play home to a major motorsports event. For the Indian MotoGP, Dorna and Fairstreet have agreed to a seven-year MoU. According to a statement from the neighbourhood Yamuna Motorway Industrial Development Authority, the Uttar Pradesh government approved a fund of Rs 8 crore to its department 'Invest UP' for the MotoGP earlier this month in response to an application from Fairsreet Sports. In addition to this investment, the local government also worked on repairing and beautifying the roads that lead to the Buddh International Circuit. Sri Lanka lose by 10 wickets, Siraj’s fireworks help India lift Asia Cup for 8th time

SEP 17, 2023 : The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan scored a faultless fifty-run partnership as India won the Asia Cup for the eighth time after speedster Mohammed Siraj's ferocious session destroyed Sri Lanka. Siraj, who is the leader of India's fast bowling unit, led his team to victory in the summit match on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo by destroying the top of the Sri Lankan order. India finally raised the trophy in style after a little more than two hours. The performance of their team silenced the Sri Lankan crowd. After five years, the Men in Blue finally hoisted the Asia Cup trophy.Siraj bowled a fantastic performance, allowing the entire Sri Lankan team to return to the pavilion for 50 runs after 15.2 overs. Siraj had his finest ODI performance to date, taking six wickets in seven overs. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan started their innings off Matheesha Pathirana's over with back-to-back boundaries, scoring the first 51 runs required with ease. Gill hit three consecutive boundaries off Pramod Madushan in the third over of the match, raising India's tally to 32/0. On the opening ball of the seventh over, Kishan took a single and confidently led India to a 10-wicket victory. On the third ball of his first over, Jasprit Bumrah made his mark, which established the tone for the game. Siraj followed it up by sending a maiden over to create the ideal backdrop for a spell that stunned everyone in the stadium. Pathum Nissanka was returned for two points by Siraj on the first ball of his second over. When the second ball clocked 143 kph, Samarawickrama made the decision to take it easy. However, the third pitch struck the right-handed batsman hard in the back, pinning his legs directly in front of the stumps, and sending him back for a two-ball duck. Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka's match-winning player against Pakistan, intervened to save Sri Lanka's innings from collapsing. Siraj enticed him to play the drive shot by baiting and luring him. When Asalanka took the bait, Ishan Kishan at covers received the ball immediately. With a hat-trick in mind, Siraj attempted the inswinging delivery to newcomer Dhananjaya de Silva once more. The ball was despatched for a four with a light push on the empty side of the field. On the subsequent delivery, the pacer returned, discovered a thin edge, and glided easily between Rahul's gloves. A unusual occurrence in ODI cricket, and even more so in a championship game, Siraj finished an over by taking four wickets. He had not yet finished celebrating his 'Sui', either. He utterly destroyed the stumps, beating captain Dausn Shanaka and dismissing him for a duck. For the first time in an ODI, India got six wickets in the opening 10 overs. Hardik Pandya entered the attack to replace Bumrah, who left the attack to join the fire-breathing Siraj. Siraj's next victim was Kusal Mendis, who appeared to be a little at ease on the pitch. Mendis attempted to drive off a quick inswinging delivery but failed due to an inside edge, and the ball destroyed the stumps. Mendis, who made 17 out of 34 balls, turned around and headed back towards the dugout. With both bat and ball, Dunith Wellalage led Sri Lanka against India in their Super Four match, but he failed this time. Hardik joined the gathering to remove Wellalage from it by aiming a bouncer at his body. The batter attempted to move out of the way, but it was too late; the ball lobbed towards the keeper Rahul after touching his gloves.…

AC approves creation of separate ‘Jammu and Kashmir Sports Cadre’

SRINAGAR: The creation of the "Jammu and Kashmir Sports cadre" and the creation of 235 positions to be used for the appointment of outstanding athletes, including 10 Gazetted Posts, were approved by the Administrative Council (AC), which convened here under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha. The conference was attended by Dr. Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, J&K.With this choice, the selection procedure for excellent athletes will get under way. For the previous few years, this process has been complicated by different legal and procedural concerns. The new regulations were developed with the intention of inspiring young people to participate in sports and supporting athletes who excel. The government's efforts to revive sports in the Union Territory are demonstrated by the sportspeople from J&K who are recognised at the national and international level in a variety of sports categories. In order to create an environment that is supportive to the growth of sports in J&K, the government works to make these appointments an annual event. Additionally, the selection of renowned athletes as mentors would greatly aid in the training and development of young people and promote their involvement in regional, national, and international tournaments. PM Modi approved Rs 675 crore for Khelo India: Anurag Thakur

NEW DELHI: Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Sports, stated on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has authorised Rs 675 crore for the Khelo India initiative and expressed hope that Team India will finish this year's Asian Games with its highest-ever medal total. The much-awaited official ceremonial dress and playing uniform for the Indian contingent competing at the upcoming 2022 Asian Games, which will take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, were released by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Tuesday. The IOA also held a glitzy send-off event, which was attended by senior officials, famous sprinter PT Usha, and Union Minister for Information, Broadcasting, Youth Affairs, and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur."In the first 60 years of the World University Games, we had won 18 medals. This time, we have 26 medals under our belt, including 10 gold ones. It's fantastic news that PM Modi has sanctioned a sum of Rs 675 crore for Khelo India. The budget for sports has tripled during this administration. Like no other leader in the world, Prime Minister Modi inspires his team. Whether you refer to it as Bharat, Hindustan, or India, our athletes will bring honour to the nation, Thakur told the reporters.The Indian team included athletes from several different sports, including the Asian Games shot put gold medalist Tajinderpal Singh Toor, shooting phenomenon Manu Bhaker, and Indian hockey goalkeepers PR Sreejesh (men) and Savita Punia (women). "It is not just a uniform; it is a symbol of pride and identity for our athletes," said Thakur in his remarks on the occasion. The uniform celebrates India's independence and highlights its rich cultural heritage and design prowess. As much as the squad will symbolise the youthful and new India, I am optimistic that we will guarantee historic performances and return with the highest medal total. I implore the nation to support and applaud our athletes.Aaquib Wani, a famous Kashmiri designer who previously created the shirt for the Indian cricket team, created the playing uniform. Every athlete wears a bit of their home state onto the pitch thanks to the design, which is influenced by the nation's diverse artistic expressions and serves as a visual ode to the great diversity and unity that constitutes India. IOA President PT Usha stated that she anticipates each participant to give their best effort to represent India with pride. "We have eagerly anticipated the Asian Games in 2022, and we are pleased that India would send its largest delegation of 634 athletes. We think this team has the ability to give India its biggest medal total as well," she added.The athlete is at the focus of everything we do at the IOA, and we go to great lengths to make sure they are well taken care of, she continued. Following athletics, rowing will be competing in Hangzhou with a unit that is 33 members large. A 15-person Esports squad will also be present at the Asian Games, where the competition will be making its official debut. In the most recent Asian Games, which were held in 2018, the Indian team won 70 medals, including 16 gold ones, setting a record for most medals ever.
