‘Agniveer’ scheme brought to benefit business house: Rahul Gandhi

BIHAR: On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi administration of introducing the 'Agniveer' programme to syphon off military budget emoluments and use it to enrich a large corporate conglomerate. Gandhi made the accusation at Mohania, in the Kaimur district of Bihar, which borders Uttar Pradesh. This is a region where a big number of young people are known to enlist in the military. Two years ago, the area saw widespread demonstrations against the Agniveer plan. Gandhi claimed, "An Agniveer will not get access to the canteen or a salary and pension on par with a regular army soldier."On June 15, 2022, the government unveiled the 'Agnipath' initiative, which aims to hire candidates for the three services who are 'below the officer's rank' for a four-year term as 'Agniveers'. "This is because the Modi government does not want to spend the defence budget on salary and other perks of soldiers," asserted the former president of the Congress. It desires to use the funds for a business house's advantage. Gandhi had earlier in the day declared that if the INDIA alliance wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they would honour the long-standing requests of the nation's farmers and give a legal guarantee to the minimum support price (MSP) of crops.As part of his "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," he spoke to a group of farmers in Rohtas, Bihar, known as the "Kisan Nyay Panchayat." He asserted that "cultivators are not getting the remunerative prices for their crops." We would provide MSP with a legal assurance if the INDIA bloc wins the general elections. Farmers have always received what they have asked for from the Congress. Gandhi declared, "We have always protected the interests of cultivators and will continue to do so, whether it be through loan waiver or MSP." His remarks coincide with the call for a "Bharat Bandh" by the farmers' organisation Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Friday in an effort to pressure the BJP-led federal government to grant the demands of the growers, which include a legally mandated minimum support price for crops. Punjabi farmers started their 'Delhi Chalo' march on Tuesday, but at the border crossings of Shambhu and Khanauri, which separate Delhi from Haryana, security guards intervened. Since then, the farmers who are protesting have set up camp near the border crossings. On Friday, their discontent reached its fourth day.Gandhi added, "If you look at the media coverage, you find little mention of farmers and other people and opposition leaders like us," while speaking at the Mohania rally in Kaimur. New Delhi, Feb 16: Ajay Maken, general secretary of Congress, claimed that the Income Tax department had frozen the party's accounts, referring to it as a "freeze of democracy." At the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Maken gave a press conference and said, "I have very disturbing news to share with all of you." Both the Youth Congress and the Congress party's accounts have been suspended. "We learned yesterday that the checks we are writing are not being honoured by the banks. We discovered after conducting additional research that the Youth Congress bank accounts have been frozen. Additionally, the Congress party's accounts have been taken. POONCH: Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former union minister and the head of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has criticised the PDP and National Conference for misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir by using strong rhetoric to gain power. Speaking at a sizable public gathering following today's road march across the border town of Mendhar in district Poonch, Azad 'trained guns' at PDP and National Conference leaders, accusing them of misleading innocent Jammu and Kashmiri citizens with cries like "autonomy" and "self-rule." But they lost sight of those catchphrases after they came to power. To seize power, they exploited the innocent as a voting bloc. The public, he argued, ought to be aware of this and not allow these political parties to use them. A former Union Health Minister attacked the People's Democratic Party and the National Conference for their power-hungry politics and shady partnerships. He cited the ways in which the PDP and NC worked with the BJP to seize power. He emphasised that although the BJP had not appointed him as a member of parliament or as a minister, figures such as Omar Abdullah had been ministers in earlier BJP-led administrations. Azad charged that the NC and PDP put their own interests ahead of the needs of the people. Citing the power-hungry goals of the NC and BJP, he issued a warning about possible future partnerships between them.The Chairman of the DPAP stressed how important it is for the Gujjar and Pahari people to remain united. He called on the two communities to unite and oppose any attempts by political parties to sow discord between them. He emphasised that the region's growth and development depend on keeping this togetherness. While praising the Pahari group for receiving ST classification, Azad stressed that the Gujjar people's quota should be kept unaltered because it is essential to their socioeconomic advancement and empowerment. He warned against the polarising strategies of other political parties and insisted on maintaining a laser-like focus on solving public issues. Azad reaffirmed his commitment to promoting wealth, peace, and development.He emphasised how crucial it is to revive programmes like "Roshni" in order to properly handle land ownership concerns and fight corruption. The former chief minister promised to put in endless effort to combat corruption and advance government transparency. He reiterated that he is still committed to bringing about possibilities for everyone and enhancing the socioeconomic climate in the area. JAMMU: Mushtaq Ahmad Shah Bukhari, a well-known Pahari leader and former minister from Jammu and Kashmir, joined the BJP here on Thursday, giving the party a significant boost ahead of the parliamentary elections. Two-time Surankote, Poonch district MLA Bukhari resigned from the National Conference in February 2022 following a disagreement with party president Farooq Abdullah on the designation of Pahari-speaking people as Scheduled Tribes. At the party headquarters here, retired senior superintendent of police Shabir Geelani and former bureaucrat G M Khuwaja were among the hundreds of followers of Bukhari who were welcomed into the party by Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina and other party leaders."I have adhered to my pledge to join a party that satisfies our long-standing demand for ST status." Bukhari told reporters, "I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Raina for providing justice to Paharis who have fought for the ST status for 40 long years." Four communities—the Gadda Brahmin, Koli, Paddari Tribe, and Pahari Ethnic Group—have been added to the list of Scheduled Tribes in Jammu and Kashmir by the BJP-led central government. The former minister declared at a function that "we will not hesitate in supporting any party which will help the community in achieving its demand of ST status." This comment did not sit well with the NC leadership, and they requested him to explain himself. This was after he resigned from the NC. After leaving the meeting, he tendered his resignation from the party's basic membership, claiming to have had a "heated argument" with Abdullah about the matter. Raina stated, ''Bukhari is not only a political heavyweight but also a deeply spiritual figure who has a great deal of influence over people (from his group) in Jammu and Kashmir. His entry into the BJP will help the party's grassroots efforts.He declared that there would be only one party remaining in Jammu and Kashmir and that there would be a wave of support for the BJP and the prime minister who had given justice to all segments of society who had been denied their rights for the previous 70 years. He also stated that the lotus, the BJP's election symbol, would bloom throughout Kashmir, not just in Dal Lake. The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled for April or May.
