KUPWARA: According to an official statement released by the police on Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmir police had used the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) to seize the property of a notorious drug dealer in Handwara, in the Kupwara district. The Handwara police said that over the course of their investigation and inquiry, they discovered that the land had been obtained illegally. The authorities claimed that the owner of the building, a small shopping complex with four stores, was Farooq Ahmad Dar, a well-known narcotics dealer. Primarily, the owner obtained the property from the illegal trafficking of psychotropic and narcotic drugs.The police claimed that the aforementioned drug dealer is connected to several cases at the Handwara police station. J&K highway closed for traffic over, 200 vehicles stranded in Ramban

Jammu, Feb 1: Over 200 cars were left stranded on Thursday when a landslip in the Ramban area forced the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. There were also other spots on the route where there was new snowfall. According to officials, the landslip occurred in the district's Sherbibi sector, which also saw a lot of rain. Traffic police stated on X that "the road near Sherbibi on Jammu-Srinagar highway is damaged and restoration work is about to start." The 270-kilometer highway, which is the only all-weather route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the nation, has over 200 vehicles trapped at various locations.They stated that although efforts are on to reopen the roadway for traffic, the Ramban-Banihal sector's continuous rains are proving to be a challenge. Travellers were warned by the traffic police to stay off the route until the weather cleared and the road was safe to travel on. Jammu, Feb 1: On Thursday morning, new snow fall in high altitude portions of Jammu province, including the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi situated atop the Trikuta hills in Reasi district. According to officials, the Jammu region's plains were also battered by moderate to light rainfall. There has been recent snowfall in and around Mata Vaishnodevi's Bhawan. This morning, a layer of snow coated the Trikuta highlands area, they reported. They stated that snow fell on Bhairon Ghati and Himkoti in the Trikuta hills as well as on the winding path that leads to the temple. Hundreds of pilgrims left the Katra base camp this morning, undeterred by the snowstorm, as they continued their journey to the temple.In addition to Vaishno Devi, snow fell on the Mughal Road, the mountains of Kishtwar, Doda, Reasi, Ramban, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch. Authorities have asked the public to avoid making needless travel plans and have alerted them to the possibility of landslides and stone explosions near highways. Snow also fell in the hills surrounding the Patnitop hill resort. Rain and gentle breezes heralded the end of more than a month of chilly, foggy conditions in the districts of Jammu and Samba. A MeT official stated, "Rains have ended the extreme cold conditions, providing relief to the residents." According to officials, there is a forecast for heavy snowfall and rain in the Kishtwar area, which increases the possibility of landslides and interruptions on mountainous and national highways. DGP sanctions Rs 1.06 cr retirement gift

JAMMU: A retirement present of Rs 1.06 crore has been approved by Director General of Police (DGP), RR Swain, for 106 employees who left their jobs either reaching superannuation or choosing to leave voluntarily. Additionally, the DGP has approved a welfare/parting gift of Rs 3.6 lakh for nine SPOs who have reached the age of sixty. A statement stated that four gazetted officers, seventy-two non-gazetted officials, twenty lesser subordinates, and eight followers of various police wings have each been approved to receive retiring gifts of Rs 1 lakh from the Contributory Police Welfare Fund. It stated that nine SPOs who were removed from the SPO records after turning 60 had each been approved for a welfare/partying gift of Rs 40,000. As a lasting thank you for their contributions to the department, police officers are authorised to receive retirement gifts.
