FASTags With Incomplete KYC To Be Deactivated Post Jan 31, Says NHAI

NEW DELHI, Jan 15: The state-owned NHAI said on Monday that banks will deactivate FASTags with a valid balance but insufficient KYC after January 31, 2024. NHAI launched the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative, which aims to discourage using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle, in order to improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and provide seamless movement at toll plazas, according to a company statement. Additionally, it stated that NHAI is urging FASTag customers to finish the "Know Your Customer" (KYC) process on their most recent FASTag by upgrading KYC in accordance with RBI rules. The statement advised consumers to make sure their most recent FASTag's KYC is finished in order to prevent any trouble. “Only the latest FASTag account shall remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after 31st January 2024,” the notification read. FASTag users can contact the closest toll plazas or toll-free customer service number of their individual issuing banks for more help or inquiries. According to the statement, NHAI took this action in response to recent claims that many FASTags were given for a single vehicle and that FASTags were issued without KYC, which is against RBI mandate. Apart from this, FASTags are sometimes purposefully not fastened on the windscreen of the car, resulting in unnecessary delays at toll plazas and causing inconvenience to fellow national highway drivers. With over 8 crore users and a penetration rate of almost 98%, FASTag has completely changed the nation's electronic toll collection system. According to the announcement, the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" project would guarantee smooth and comfortable travels and assist toll operations become more efficient.
