CBI court rejects Lal Singh plea for appointing Warrant Officer

JAMMU: Lal Singh, the leader of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP), filed a plea seeking the appointment of a warrant officer, but Special Judge CBI Bala Joyti denied it. The court noted, "According to the prosecution, there is no provision for appointment of Warrant Officer in any circumstances under the Act and the present application being completely illegal and bad in law be rejected," after hearing arguments from Advocate Rajesh Kotwal for the applicant and APP Ashwani Khajuria for the Enforcement Directorate. At the bar, the investigating officer declared that Ch Lal Singh is fully conscious and stable and that there are no extraordinary or urgent circumstances that call for this court to exercise its extraordinary jurisdiction.Furthermore, Ch. Lal Singh, the accused, is being medically examined every 24 hours, is receiving appropriate medical supervision, and is fit to be in the Enforcement Directorate's custody; as a result, the request to appoint him as a warrant officer is being denied. The opposing side countered by restating that Ch Lal Singh is not receiving the necessary medical attention while in ED custody and that a warrant officer may be assigned. After taking into account competing arguments, the Special Judge concluded that "this court has taken care of him by permitting medicines as prescribed by the doctors keeping in view of his health status and also allowed him to share his diet chart with ED authorities vide order dated 13.11.2023 in CMP No. 305, as such, prayer in this application being devoid of any legal force is declined". Doda bus accident : Family torn apart by tragedy

JAMMU: Nobody in Saksham's family could have predicted that Wednesday, when he and his younger brother Riksham and their mother left to go back to school in Jammu, would be their last trip together. While Riksham, 11, is fighting for his life in the district's Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Saksham, 14, and his mother Ashu Devi perished after their bus fell into a 300-foot-deep gorge in Doda. Ajay Parihar, the father of the young boys and a recipient of the Sena Medal, is devastated and in shock. On Thursday, Ajay's older brother announced that Saksham and Riksham had returned home to see his daughter get married. "After attending the wedding, they were returning to Jammu to appear for their exams," he explained.Ajay's brother snapped, lamenting the bad state of the roads, reckless driving that goes unchecked, and the overcrowding of cars. He said that the administration has abandoned people to die. "Had the administration fixed accountability, this accident would have not happened and we would have not lost our family members," he stated. According to Suresh, another family relative, Ajay desired for his sons to enlist in the Army. According to the family's relatives, Ajay wanted to give his sons the best education possible, and they were enrolled in a prestigious Jammu university. After hearing about the accident, a large crowd gathered at Ajay's home in Kishtwar's Beda-Bhata neighbourhood on Wednesday night. Saksham's mother and the other 39 passengers perished when the bus they were riding in veered off the road and into the ravine. The incident on the Batote-Kishtwar national highway near Trungal-Assar resulted in twenty injuries. Panel set up to probe Doda bus accident

DODA: Officials said on Thursday that 39 people had died in the bus accident in Doda district, and that the Jammu and Kashmir government had formed a three-person panel to investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident. On Wednesday, the bus in Doda district veered off the road and tumbled into a 300-foot ravine. After being taken to a hospital, twenty injured passengers passed away late on Wednesday night. A committee has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident near Assar in the Doda district, according to Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar.According to the officer, the committee will look into the incident and provide his office with a thorough inquiry report in a week. Dr. Ravi Kumar Bharti, additional district magistrate (ADM), Doda, superintending engineer, and assistant road transport officer are the members of the committee. Locals have attributed a number of accidents in the area to poor road conditions in the district, reckless driving, and overcrowding of vehicles. Fire sweeps through several houses in Doda; no causalities reported

DODA: In the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, a large fire spread to multiple homes on Thursday, according to officials. Abdul Qayoom, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Doda, stated, "We received information around 4:30 in the morning that a few houses in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district had caught fire and firefighters were rushed to the spot." Officials stated that five fire tenders were dispatched as soon as they received information, and the fire was put out. "Eight houses were damaged in the fire, according to the information we have received so far. We discovered during the preliminary investigation that a short circuit was the fire's origin," SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom stated. Officials added that there were currently no reports of any injuries or fatalities from the fire. More research is being done. Police attaches property, vehicles of drug peddlers in Poonch

POONCH:In the frontier Poonch district on Wednesday, Jammu and Kashmir Police apprehended a residential house and the vehicles of drug dealers. A spokesperson for the police said: "Police today attached one double -storied, residential house valuing in lakhs and motor vehicles jointly belonging to notorious drug peddlers." Section 68-F of the NDPS Act 1985 names them as Mehmood Hussain, Zaffer Iqbal, and Javid Iqbal, sons of Talib Hussain, who are currently residents of Deri Dabsi and Kotian Mendhar, according to the spokesperson. The Poonch Police investigation and inquiry revealed the residential house and cars to be unlawfully acquired property, the spokesperson continued."The property was prima facie accured from illicit trafficking in Narcotic drug and Psychotropic Substances by the owners," the spokesperson continued. 38 died 20 injured as bus falls into gorge in Doda

DODA: In Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Wednesday, a bus carrying passengers skidded off the road and rolled down into a 300-foot gorge, inflicting at least 38 fatalities and injuring 20, according to officials. According to reports, the bus with registration number JK02CN-6555 was carrying 58 passengers when it skidded off the Batote-Kishtwar national highway near Trungal-Assar and fell 300 feet downhill. According to the officials, a rescue operation has begun, and some bodies have been recovered. There will probably be more deaths. A police spokesperson stated that the bus was travelling from Kishtwar to Jammu when the accident happened at Trungal-Assar at approximately 11:50 am.Lieutenant Colonel Suneel Bartwal, the Public Relations Officer (Defence), said in a statement that 38 people were killed in the incident, of whom 32 were initially pronounced dead and 20 injured. "In a commendable display of promptness and coordination, the Indian Army, in collaboration with civil administration, conducted a swift rescue operation in response to a grievous accident on National Highway 244 at Assar, near Wani Mod, approximately 4 km from COB ASSAR towards Batote," according to him. According to Bartwal, the bodies are being transported to the Doda Civil Hospital and the Assar Primary Health Centre. He also stated that there were 58 people on board the unfortunate bus at the time of the incident. 37 people were slain and 19 injured, including four who were taken to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Jammu, according to a statement made earlier by Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh. "This is a regrettable occurrence. The accident was allegedly caused by the bus not being driven on the correct side, Singh stated at this point. The bodies of some of the deceased will be given to their relatives after they have been identified. "We examined every detail of the car. Perhaps it wasn't being driven correctly. The car rolled down after jumping over the crash barriers, according to Singh. He said there will be an investigation into the incident. Both Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their sorrow over the incident. "It is upsetting that a bus accident occurred in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. I send my sympathies to the families who have lost loved ones. Modi stated on X, "I hope the injured people heal as soon as possible. He declared that the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each to the deceased's next of kin and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic bus accident in Doda, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed many precious lives. In the gorge where the bus accident occurred, the local government is in charge of the rescue effort. On X, Shah expressed, "My sincere condolences to the families of the departed and prayers for a quick recovery for the injured. The bus sustained severe damage as a result of the fall from a significant height, according to sources. They added that some of the injured passengers have been transported to hospitals and that the rescue effort involves not only locals but also members of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police. Four of the injured were airlifted to the GMC hospital in Jammu after they were initially taken to a hospital in Doda. The rescue effort is being immediately overseen by high ranking police and civil administration officials. According to the officials, the bus was carrying more passengers when it rolled into the gorge after overturning during a "U" turn. They also said that after some sections of the bus were cut away, the bodies were removed. According to the officials, some of the bodies had severe mutilations. Residents voiced concern about the state of the road, claiming that it not only contributed to this accident but also to a number of other tragedies in the past.
