New Delhi, Oct 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Saturday that there has been a 65% decrease in terrorist, left-wing extremist, and insurgency occurrences in the Northeast. In addition, he declared that "three hotspots—the Northeast, Jammu and Kashmir, and LWE (Left Wing Extremism-hit states) are becoming peaceful." After honouring martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at the National Police Memorial here, the home minister addressed a crowd and stated that the Narendra Modi government had enacted harsh legislation while upholding a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. According to him, the establishment of the "Police Technology Mission" to modernise the police force is another way that the government has attempted to create the greatest counterterrorism force in the world.According to Shah, the Modi administration has filed three bills in parliament that aim to completely restructure the criminal justice system. The minister stated that the three bills will supersede laws that date back 150 years and ensure that every person has all the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. The proposed laws will also take Indianness into account. "The efforts and accomplishments of police personnel have resulted in a 65 percent decrease in terror, Left Wing Extremism, and insurgency incidents in the Northeast," stated Shah.He claimed that police officers have proven their worth in every circumstance, whether it be combating terrorists, stopping crime, upholding law and order in front of big crowds, or shielding civilians during emergencies.Regarding the part that police play in a disaster, he mentioned that in the past, members of various police forces have gained recognition in the field of disaster management through the National Disaster Response Force, or NDRF. "People gain confidence that there is no problem now that the NDRF has arrived, regardless of the size of the disaster," he said. Shah claimed that by periodically altering various programmes, the Modi administration is trying to improve the wellbeing of police personnel.He stated that the Modi administration is committed to the wellbeing of every employee and worries about their security. In honouring the 36,250 police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty since the country's independence, he stated that this police memorial is more than simply a symbol; it is a recognition of the commitment and sacrifice made by police officers to the advancement of the nation. At the Hot Springs in Ladakh, on October 21, 1959, ten police officers were killed while performing their duties amid an ambush by highly armed Chinese troops. October 21 is now remembered annually to memorialise these martyrs as well as all other law enforcement officers who lost their lives while performing their duties.The National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri was dedicated to the nation on Police Commemoration Day in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in honour of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and their critical role in maintaining national security and integrity. The memorial is made up of a museum, the "Wall of Valour," and a centre sculpture. The centrepiece, a granite monolith cenotaph rising to a height of thirty feet, represents the bravery, tenacity, and selflessness of law enforcement officers. The names of martyrs are inscribed on the "Wall of Valour," which honours the courage and selflessness of police officers who have given their lives while performing their duties since the country's independence.The museum is intended to be a historical and dynamic display of Indian police.
