Jammu, Nov 30 : Kashmir and Jammu On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha declared that his administration is prepared to conduct assembly elections in the Union Territory at the request of the Indian Election Commission. Taking aim at some political figures who disseminated false information about the upcoming elections, LG Sinha declared he would only depart Jammu and Kashmir following the successful completion of the assembly polls."Any information pertaining to arrangements that J&K was requested to provide to the ECI has been provided." "I want to announce from this platform that the J&K administration is prepared to hold elections whenever the ECI notifies us," Sinha stated at the "Samvaad" conference, which was hosted here by Amar Ujala. LG Sinha emphasised that the Election Commission of India is the only body with the authority to hold assembly votes, referring to the democratic procedures in J&K. In addition, he attacked political figures for supposedly deceiving the people."It was my responsibility to make sure the nation's writ was established—and is—in Jammu and Kashmir. That was (my) task, which I completed," he declared. "All of the terrorist organisations' top leaders have been removed. The remaining ones will shortly be gone. Terrorism has no place here," he declared. He claimed that the CRPF, police, and army all work well together. "Our neighbour is attempting to cause trouble here, and there have been some incidents." There were jawans who were martyred. He went on, "We'll exact revenge for those murders.Regarding the Kashmiri Pandits, he commended the government for its efforts in giving 3,000 people houses and jobs, but he also stated that more steps needed to be taken to facilitate their resettlement.

Woman among 3 drug peddlers held in Baramulla: JKP

BARAMULLA: In the district of Baramulla in North Kashmir, police have detained three drug dealers, one of whom is a woman, as part of their ongoing efforts to eradicate the drug problem from society. They have also retrieved illegal substances from their hands. According to a spokesman, at a checkpoint set up at Kitchama near the service station, a police party from Police Station Sheeri, led by SHO PS Sheeri and overseen by DySP Hqrs Baramulla, stopped two men and a woman who were heading towards Kitchama on a scooter with the licence plate JK05-0116."They were later identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Hassan, Shokeen Ahmad Ganie son of Ab Jabar Ganie, both residents of Batangi Boniyar, and Saleema Begum wife of Mohd Ashraf Najar, resident of Mother Sheeri. During their search, 776 grammes of contraband heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession." They have been arrested and shifted to PS Sheeri where they remain in custody", he said. Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Dec 1: India's two main borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh would be fully guarded over the next two years, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who stated on Friday that efforts are now being made to close gaps in a 60-kilometer length along these two fronts. Shah was speaking following his salute from the BSF's ceremonial parade, which was held in honour of the BSF's 59th Raising Day festivities.The minister stated that in the nine years since taking office, the Narendra Modi administration has sealed and fortified gaps along roughly 560 kilometres of the borders between Bangladesh and Pakistan and India. According to him, work is only progressing on around 60 km of these two borders, which are on the western and eastern flanks of India, respectively, and all of the gaps are being filled in. We will completely protect these two borders in the next two years, according to Shah.Long riverine, hilly, and swampy landscapes separate the two borders—2,290 km for the India-Pakistan International Border and 4,096 km for the India-Bangladesh Border—making it difficult to build barriers. RBI says Rs 2,000 notes totalling Rs 9,760 cr still with public

MUMBAI: Only over Rs 9,760 crore worth of the Rs 2,000 bank notes are still in circulation, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which reported on Friday that nearly 97.26% of the notes have been returned to the banking system. The RBI declared on May 19 that banknotes with a denomination of Rs 2,000 will no longer be in circulation. "The total value of Rs 2,000 bank notes in circulation, which amounted to Rs 3.56 lakh crore as at the close of business on May 19, 2023 when the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 bank notes was announced, has declined to Rs 9,760 crore as at the close of business on November 30, 2023," the RBI stated in a statement. It further stated that as of May 19, 2023, 97.26% of the high-value currency in circulation has been brought back into the banking system. The RBI stated, "The Rs 2,000 bank notes remain legal tender." The 19 RBI offices around the nation accept deposits and/or exchanges of Rs 2,000 in banknotes. Additionally, anyone can send two thousand rupees by India Post from any post office to any RBI Issue Office to have the money credited to their bank accounts back home. The initial request was made to the public and entities holding these notes to exchange or deposit them in bank accounts by September 30. Later, the deadline was moved to October 7. On October 7, deposit and exchange services were terminated at bank branches. At the 19 RBI offices, people have had the option of exchanging their currency or having the same amount credited to their bank accounts as of October 8. In the meantime, lines are seen at RBI offices during business hours to exchange or deposit Rs 2,000 notes. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram are the 19 RBI offices that deposit and exchange bank notes. November 2016 saw the introduction of the Rs 2,000 bank notes, which replaced the then-current Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 bank notes. Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Dec 1: On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah honoured the members of the Border Security Force who gave their lives while performing their duties on the 59th Raising Day of the BSF in the Hazaribagh area of Jharkhand. Every year on December 1, the BSF, with a strength of almost 2.5 lakh people, celebrates Raising Day, making it the largest border guarding force globally. The BSF is the only force in the country with a clearly defined function in both peacetime and warfare, and it is mandated to guard the borders between India and Bangladesh as well as Pakistan. It has proven its worth by effectively completing every assignment given to it in both peace and conflict, all the while maintaining calm and peace along the border.India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh are guarded by BSF troops, who are stationed in the most difficult terrain and isolated areas. Up until 1965, the State Armed Police Battalion guarded India's border with Pakistan. Pakistan launched an attack on Sardar Post, Chhar Bet, and Beria Bet in Kutch on April 9, 1965. The Government of India recognised the necessity for a specialised, centrally controlled Border Security Force that would be armed and trained to man the international border with Pakistan after this revealed the State Armed Police's inability to handle armed aggression.The Committee of Secretaries' recommendations led to the creation of the Border Security Force on December 1, 1965. The BSF was established in 1965 with 25 battalions, and as time went on, it was enlarged to meet the needs of the country in order to combat militancy in the Northeast, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab. Srinagar, Dec 1: The Meteorological Department predicted a marked improvement in the weather across the Union Territory on Friday, while the Sonamarg tourist resort in Jammu and Kashmir saw light snowfall for the second day in a row, according to officials. On Thursday, precipitation fell in the lowlands and snow fell in the upper Valley, bringing an end to the three-week dry spell in Kashmir. According to officials, there was light snowfall in Sonamarg, in the Ganderbal district, on Friday morning as well, despite the fact that snowfall was recorded in Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, Sonamarg, in central Kashmir, and other regions in the middle and higher ranges on Thursday.The Met Office reported that Sonamarg and the surrounding areas saw light snowfall and partly to mostly cloudy weather in a number of locations. JAMMU: In relation to a bribery case involving Rs 10 lakh, the CBI has filed a charge sheet against Mohammed Farooq Dar, the former Special Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department in Jammu and Kashmir, and other individuals, according to officials on Thursday. In addition to Dar, the chargesheet filed by the CBI also names Gohar Ahmed Dar, a private individual, and Sarbjit Singh, the former Chief Horticulture Officer of Jammu. According to the CBI's charge sheet, which was submitted to the Special CBI court in Jammu, Singh and Gohar Ahmed were detained while taking a Rs. 10 lakh bribe on behalf of Farooq Dar, who was then appointed Special Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir government's Agriculture and Production Department.According to a statement by a CBI spokesperson, the complainant was allegedly asked for the bribe in exchange for his assignment and to address departmental problems, including a possible promotion. "The private individual (Supplier/Contractor of Agriculture & Production Department) (Gohar) was discovered to have acted as a middleman for the collecting of bribes during the investigation. Additionally, it was claimed that the Special Secretary (Dar) was providing official information about the complainant's transfer or posting to an intermediary, who then forwarded it to the Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Jammu (Singh)," the spokesperson stated. According to the CBI, Dar started the transfer proposal and first suggested the complainant's name for CHO, Doda, and then for CHO, Rajouri, in "gross disregard" of the inquiry officer's recommendation that the complainant not be assigned to any sensitive positions. Defence Acquisition Council approves capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 2.23 lac cr

NEW DELHI: Under the direction of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Defence purchase Council approved the Acceptance of Necessity (AoNs) for a number of capital purchase projects totaling Rs 2.23 lakh crore on Thursday. A total of Rs 2.20 lakh crore (98%) of the acquisition will come from local industries. A statement from the defence ministry stated, "This will give the Indian Defence Industry a substantial boost towards the aim of achieving the goal of 'Aatmanirbharta'." The acquisition of two types of anti-tank munitions (ADM Types 2 and 3), which are able to neutralise enemy people as well as tanks and armoured personnel carriers, has been granted by the council to the AoN.AoN has been granted permission to purchase a state-of-the-art Towed Gun System (TGS), which will replace the Indian Field Gun (IFG), which has reached the end of its useful life. The TGS will become a mainstay of the Indian Army's artillery units. Additionally, the AoN was granted for the 155 mm Nubless projectile, which will increase the projectiles' lethality and safety when used in 155 mm artillery weapons. The Indian Army will purchase all of these pieces of gear under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. In order to keep T-90 tanks' combative advantage over enemy platforms, the AoN for the purchase and integration of Automatic Target Tracker (ATT) and Digital Basaltic Computer (DBC) for T-90 Tanks under the Buy (India) category has also been granted.The Indian Navy's surface platforms have been granted the authority to purchase Medium Range Anti-Ship Missiles (MRAShM) under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. The MRAShM is intended to be a principal offensive armament on Indian Naval Ships and a lightweight surface-to-surface missile. Furthermore, the Indian Army and Air Force (IAF) received AoNs from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) to purchase Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk 1A from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. The DAC has also granted the AoNs for the in-house Su-30 MKI aircraft upgrade from HAL.Although acquiring these weapons will provide the IAF great strength, obtaining them from homegrown defence companies will raise the level of indigenous capacity. Additionally, it will significantly lessen reliance on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Additionally, a significant modification to the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 has received clearance by the DAC. It has been agreed that going forward, at least 50% of the indigenous content in all categories of procurement cases must consist of Indian-made materials, components, and software. The cost of an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), Comprehensive Maintenance Contract (CMC), or After-Sale Service will not be included in the computation of Indigenous content. Additionally, the DAC has decided to promote MSMEs' and startups' involvement in the defence ecosystem even more. Registered MSMEs and recognised start-ups will be given preference for issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for all procurement cases with AoN costs up to Rs 300 crore. There will be no financial parameters attached to RFPs, and the Defence Procurement Board (DPB) may approve AoN costs up to Rs 500 crore on an individual basis.
