‘Will ensure justice’: Singh meets families of 3 slain civilians in Rajouri

RAJOURI: The families of three civilians who were allegedly killed in custody just hours after being picked up by the security forces on December 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday. In addition to visiting the Government Medical College (GMC) to find out the whereabouts of four other "torture" victims, he promised the surviving victim's family that justice would be served. By midday, six people—two from each of the deceased's families—had arrived in Rajouri. Singh arrived in the town in the afternoon and met the families in Dak Bungalow with the help of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Manoj Pande.Attending the meeting were a number of District Development Council (DDC) members, as well as former legislators and representatives of civil society. After meeting the other victims in the GMC hospital, Singh told the media, "Whatever has happened...there will be justice." On December 21, terrorists ambushed Armymen's vehicles at Dhatyar Morh, between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in Poonch, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers and the injuries of three more. Three civilians, Safeer Hussain (43), Mohd Showket (27), and Shabir Ahmad (32) were reportedly taken up by the Army for questioning after the attack; they were subsequently discovered dead on December 22. Social media users shared the allegedly captured video clips of the citizens being tortured while in custody. Mohd Zulfkar, his brother Mohd Betab, Fazal Hussain, and Mohd Farooq were among the four additional individuals who were brought to the GMC hospital on Friday. It is said that during the counterterrorism operation, the troops physically assaulted them in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri. The Thanamandi forest belt and Surankote are still the sites of ongoing terrorist searches. Former MLC Shahnaz Ganai was quoted by the news agency as saying, "The defence minister met with the families of the civilians and civil society and assured action against the guilty after an inquiry into the incident." Attending the meeting at Dak Bungalow, Ganai expressed optimism that the victim's family would receive justice following the visit of the defence minister.In addition to denouncing this incident, we honour our gallant soldiers and offer our condolences to their families. The people of Rajouri-Poonch will not permit hostile parties, either domestically or internationally, to profit from incidents of this nature, declared Ganai. AC gives amnesty to settle tax arrears of pre GST regime

JAMMU: Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Administrative Council (AC) convened here and approved a proposal from the Finance Department to grant amnesty for the settlement of tax arrears related to the pre-GST regime. Attending the meeting were Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, the Lieutenant Governor's principal secretary, Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary, and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, the advisor. In addition to returning the government's blocked revenue, this action will relieve tax payers by waiving interest and penalties. Due to a number of factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic, dealers were previously unable to benefit from the previous amnesty programme established by Government order no. 39-FD of 2018, dated 05/02/2018.iii) The government-to-be-notified scheme will waive the interest and penalty in (i) and (ii), provided that 100% of the principal tax is paid in the required manner and within the allotted time. iv) Resolving demands for industrial units under the Central Sales Tax Act, 1956, the J&K General Sales Tax Act, 1962 (up to 07/07/2017 and 31/08/2017 for liquor-dealing units), and the repealed J&K Value Added Tax Act, 2005 (up to 2017–18) (up to 07/07/2017), with regard to assessed/re-assessed demands, including cases that have not yet been assessed but must meet specific requirements to be notified in the scheme. The government's decision will minimise tax dispute cases and conclude pre-GST cases, among other things. Applications for this amnesty must be submitted no later than six months after the date an order in this regard is issued. SC Forms Committee For Preparing SOP On Adjournments

NEW DELHI, Dec 27: A committee of judges appointed by the Supreme Court is tasked with creating a standard operating procedure (SOP) that attorneys can use to request an adjournment of proceedings. The panel has asked the Bar and other interested parties for their suggestions on the matter. This came about as a result of concerns expressed by the Supreme Court Advocate on Record Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association regarding circulars the top court sent out regarding ending the distribution of adjournment slips.On December 5 and 22, the supreme court published two circulars requesting that the practice be discontinued. "All stakeholders are hereby notified that the practice of circulating adjournment slips/letters is discontinued with immediate effect until December 15, 2023, in order to accommodate the request of listing the maximum number of cases in the interest of litigants and in view of the ensuing winter vacation." The December 5 circular had stated, "If there is any real difficulty, a request for adjournment can be made before the Court concerned.""In light of the request of SCBA and SCAORA with regard to continuation of circulation of adjournments slips, the Competent Authority has been pleased to constitute a Committee of Hon'ble Judges for preparing a Standard Operating Procedure after inviting suggestions of the Bar & all stakeholders and for working further modalities," the top court said in a circular on December 22 in response to several bar bodies voicing their concerns. It stated that the distribution of adjournment slips has been suspended until further notice.By January 2, 2024, the Supreme Court Bar Association would like all of its members to submit their ideas for acceptable reasons to request adjournments. In a previous statement, Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud urged attorneys not to ask for adjournments in new cases, stating that he did not want the Supreme Court to turn into a "tarikh-pe-tarikh" court because doing so undermines public confidence. Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 27: The temple trust announced on Wednesday that the pure white Makrana marble sanctum sanctorum of the magnificent Ram Temple in Ayodhya will host an idol of Lord Ram in his childlike form, known as Ram Lalla, starting next month. The five-year-old Ram Lalla, represented by a 51-inch-tall idol of Lord Ram, will be chosen from three designs, according to Champat Rai, Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. He declared, "The one with the greatest divineness and the childlike appearance will be chosen."According to Champat Rai, who was describing the map of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple, the entire structure was built using 21–22 lakh cubic feet of stone. "In the last 100–200 years, such a large stone structure would not have been built in Northern India, and certainly not in the South," he declared. Beneath the structure is an artificial rock foundation consisting of 56 layers that was designed and constructed by engineers. Secondly, a plinth raised to a height of 21 feet is constructed from 17,000 granite blocks that are native to Telangana and Karnataka. The temple structure was built using about five lakh cubic feet of pink sandstone from Bharatpur, Rajasthan. The pure white Makrana marble that makes up the temple's sanctum sanctorum is ready, he informed reporters in this location. On January 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the Ram Temple's consecration ceremony. The event, which is expected to attract dignitaries and people from all walks of life, is fully planned. According to the trust secretary, the temple is being built on the northern portion of the 70 acres that the Supreme Court granted to Hindus in 2019.Here, a three-story temple is being constructed. The temple's first floor is currently being built, while the ground floor has been finished. The four-cornered Prakara wall, which encloses the temple, spans almost 750 metres, according to Rai. He claimed that the wall enclosing the temple is special because it is 14 feet wide. He said, "The Prakara will also be double-storeyed, with devotees being able to perform the Parikrama (temple circumambulation) on the upper floor."According to Rai, the Prakara's construction could take an additional six to eight months. "Locker facilities for 25,000 pilgrims have been made at Pilgrimage Facility Centre (PFC)," he said, providing information about the facilities for the pilgrims visiting the temple. Beside the PFC, a small hospital will also be constructed. Additionally, a sizable complex with restrooms and other amenities has been built for the pilgrims; two sewer treatment plants are also being built here to handle the waste from this complex. According to the secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, the powerhouse is the source of the electricity supply."There won't be any pressure on the Municipal Corporation's electrical line because we have a direct dedicated line from the powerhouse, 33 KW, and its receiving station and three distribution stations have been built inside the premises," he continued. According to the trust secretary, an underground water reservoir has also been excavated close to the building in case the fire department needs water. We will extract water from the ground or the Saryu River as needed. However, groundwater will only seep into the earth. Over twenty acres of this land are under construction, and the remaining fifty acres are covered in vegetation. Poonch/Jammu, Dec 27: While cordon and search operations continued for the seventh day in a row on Wednesday to find the terrorists responsible for last week's ambush that killed four soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, new searches were started along the border with Pakistan in Samba and Poonch, according to officials. They said Singh will also meet with a delegation of chosen individuals.
