JAMMU, Jun 21: official said on Wed, that No traffic will be allowed on the Jammu-Srinagar NH on Friday due to repair and maintenance works. DC Ramban Mussarat Islam issued the warning to observe a “no traffic day” on the NH-44, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the nation, while preparations for the annual Amarnath yatra, which will begin in the valley on July 1, were still underway, according to the officials.
On June 30, one day before the yatra’s scheduled start, the first group of pilgrims will depart for Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu. This sacred cave sanctuary is home to a naturally created ice-shivling and is 3,880-meters high.’No traffic day’ on National Highway-44 is June 23. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will conduct urgent repair and maintenance work, hence no traffic will be permitted between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels, according to a tweet from the deputy commissioner’s office.
Over the past fortnight, commuters on the highway have been complaining of experiencing snarls in the blazing heat as a result of severe traffic jams at many locations, including the landslide-prone Dalwas, Cafeteria Morh, and Nachlana.According to the officials, it is also forbidden for big motor vehicles that are overloaded or improperly fitted to travel on highways because when these vehicles break down, it causes traffic jams and inconveniences for other drivers.
They continued by saying that traffic police had been instructed to start prosecuting the offenders.
The deputy commissioner provided an update on the ongoing construction work and stated that the remaining 1.06 km of the Ramban flyover has nearly been covered in concrete.
Once it is operational, the flyover would avoid the Ramban market, which is frequently congested.
