NEW DELHI, May 27 : Prior to the arrival of children on Saturday morning, a black bear entered the grounds of a government-run school in Banihal, Ramban district, sparking a joint rescue effort by the police and wildlife department, officials said. However, after it was discovered that the beast had escaped by taking advantage of the dense forest in the region, the administrators said that the pupils were permitted inside the premises over an hour after their allocated time.
When several residents saw the black bear coming into the grounds of the government higher secondary school for boys from a nearby government building, where it is thought to have sought shelter during the night, fear, according to reports, swept through Banihal at nine in the morning.when receiving information, police and wildlife protection teams sped to the scene in an attempt to apprehend the bear, but they were unable to find it when it was first spotted near the school laboratory, according to officials.
For the protection of the general people, they said that joint teams had been dispersed around the region to locate the bear.The school’s principal, Abdul Rashid Giri, stated that the presence of the wild bear caused a delay in the start of classes of about an hour.
Locals claimed that over the past week, bear sightings in the town and surrounding areas, particularly on the national highway connecting Jammu and Srinagar, had grown commonplace.According to a local resident named Farooq Ahmad, “The presence of three bears around Banihal is a grave threat and the department concerned needs to take necessary measures to ensure their prompt capture for the safety of the people.”
