SRINAGAR, June 12: The NIA on Monday attached properties of businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali in Kupwara district in connection with a terror funding case, officials.They said that a team from the NIA went to the villages of Baghatpora and Kachwari in the Handwara region of the north Kashmir district, and attached immovable property in the name of Watali.
According to the officials, the properties include land registered in Watali’s name, who is accused of sponsoring terrorism.
They said that an order issued by the Special NIA Court in New Delhi in May caused the properties to be seized.In 2017, the NIA detained Watali in accordance with several provisions of the strict Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In a case involving suspected acts of terrorism and secessionist activity in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017, a trial court had filed charges against Watali and other defendants in May of last year.
In February of last year, Watali was released from custody and put under home arrest for medical reasons.
