LoP Sunil Sharma Targets Abdullahs, Says Omar Ready To Settle For Anything Short Of Statehood

Jammu, May 31: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, claiming that the Abdullah family has never resigned from power and would compromise on the demand for restoration of full statehood if their political privileges remain intact.
Addressing media persons, Sharma said, “Abdullahs don’t resign; Omar would settle for anything below Union Territory status as long as there is no cut in protocol,” taking a dig at the National Conference leadership over its stand on Jammu and Kashmir’s political status.
The BJP leader alleged that the Abdullah family has historically remained focused on retaining power and official privileges rather than safeguarding the interests of the people. He said the National Conference’s politics has revolved around positions and protocol, accusing the party of misleading the public on key political issues.
Sharma further asserted that the BJP remains committed to development, transparency and strengthening democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, while accusing the ruling National Conference of attempting to create confusion over constitutional and administrative matters.
The remarks come amid continued political debate over the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the future administrative framework of the Union Territory.
