ANANTNAG: As authorities intensify the crackdown on drug trafficking under the ‘Nasha Mukhtsar J&K Abhiyan’ across the Union Territory, Anantnag Police apprehended a notorious woman drug peddler involved in multiple narcotics cases and recovered contraband substances from her possession, officials said on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson stated that a police party from Police Post Dialgam had established a routine naka checking point at Laalan Bypass. During the checking, a woman was seen approaching from Bondialgam towards Laalan.
On noticing the police presence, she attempted to flee from the spot, raising suspicion. However, the alert naka party acted swiftly and apprehended her on the spot.
During the search, contraband substance, apparently heroin-like in nature, was recovered from her possession. Upon sustained questioning, she identified herself as Shugafta Akhter, daughter of Mohd Hussain Dar, resident of Dangerpora, Anantnag.
Police registered a case under FIR No. 130/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station, and an investigation has been initiated.
Police officials said that Shugafta Akhter is a notorious and most-wanted drug peddler already involved in multiple NDPS cases. Her arrest is being viewed as a major success in the ongoing drive against the drug menace in the district.
