UDHAMPUR: The Udhampur Administration has started a district-wide community mobilisation drive to promote cleanliness and sanitation as part of the Swachhta Abhiyan. Lal Chand, Chairperson DDC Udhampur, assisted by Saloni Rai, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur; Dr Vinod Kumar, SSP; Ghan Sham Singh, ADDC; Joginder Singh Jasrotia, ADC; and SDMs, along with other members of the District Administration actively participating, organised the launch event. In order to emphasise the importance of upholding cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene, the Chairperson DDC urged all participants to keep their surroundings clean and encourage others to do the same.To keep the area clean, he urged the populace to stop using polythene, practise good hygiene and safeguard the district’s water supplies. The importance of collaboration from all stakeholders in raising awareness about cleanliness was emphasised by Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai. The public was urged to pledge their support for a clean and green area by actively participating on an individual and community level, as she highlighted the objectives of the cleaning effort. She thanked everyone who took part and extended an invitation for them to join the District Administration’s future initiatives to promote cleanliness. The mammoth cleaning effort would include every Block/Tehsil, as well as all Municipal wards, Blocks, and panchayats in the District, according to Rai, showing the enthusiastic response of the district’s residents. Later, students from several schools participated in an awareness rally, and vehicles were flagged off from Devika Ghat for door-to-door collection. At Devika Ghat, MC Udhampur also presented a Nukkad natak (street play). PRI members, ULBs, District Officers, members of the general public, representatives of NGOs, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Bharat Scouts and Guides, as well as students and staff from educational institutions, participated in simultaneous cleanliness and sanitization drives in each Block/Tehsil Headquarters and across all three MCs of the district.
