LEH:By detaining six suspects and recovering various stolen articles, including a police officer’s service weapon, from the suspects, District Police Leh has solved a theft case involving a service weapon and four additional house theft crimes. Speaking at a press conference held in this location today, SSP Leh PD Nitya stated that an investigation was launched after ASI Asgar Ali complained on September 25, 2023, that unidentified thieves had broken into his home and fled with several items, including a government-issued pistol and 35 bullets (ammunition) that he had locked in a steel locker.According to her, Leh Police and J&K Police worked together to successfully seize the suspects from a car at Qazigund on September 26, 2023, at around 12:05 p.m., based on both technical and human intelligence. “During the search of the vehicle, a service pistol and 35 rounds were discovered along with 34 other items that were likely stolen, and two people, Jiyarul Sheikh son of Lalchand Sheikh Brahmanigram of Kolkata and Mohd Nizam Mullah son of Himayat Mullah of JJ Colony (Delhi), who were travelling in the vehicle, were detained in this regard. “Further investigation revealed the involvement of two additional people. As a result, Leh Police detained two additional suspects on September 29, 2023: Mohd Sahil, the son of Mohd Himmat of Kolkata, and Pervaiz Shiekh, the son of Forooq Sheikh of Kolkata. As a result of the four accused admitting during questioning to having stolen the service weapon from ASI Asgar Ali’s residence, Section 7/25 of the Arms Act was introduced. Additionally, they admitted to committing multiple thefts at different locations, such as Nubra, Chimday, Solar Colony, etc., and recoveries were made as a result of the admissions, the officer said. She claimed that after the accused came forward, Ram Kali, the wife of Partap, who lived in New Delhi (now Khalsar Nubra), had some stolen property that had been sold to Asiya Rasool Sheikh (Alias Kani), the daughter of Ghulam Rasool Shiekh, a resident of Hari Singh Street (Srinagar). As a result, she had items recovered from her possession, and Police Station Nubra arrested her on April 10, 2023. In five incidents, FIR Numbers 45/2023 of the Police Station Leh, 165/2023 of the Police Station Leh, 166/2023 of the Police Station Leh, 167/2023 of the Police Station Leh, and FIR Number 25/2023 of the Police Station Nubra, recoveries have been made to date.The majority of the stolen stuff that has been found so far is jewellery made of gold, silver, and other valuable stones. There are also some electronic goods among the silver utensils. Three suspected criminally related cars, including two Maruti Vans and a TATA-207 pickup truck, have been impounded, the SSP announced, adding that further inquiries into their possible participation in other theft cases are ongoing.
