Pak’s Top Election Body Indicts Imran Khan, His Former Aide Fawad Chaudhry In Contempt Case

Islamabad, Jan 3: In a contempt case, Pakistan's highest electoral body on Wednesday indicted former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, and his former information minister, Fawad Chaudhry. Chaudhry, a prominent former member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), and Khan, 71, are the party's founding chairman and founder. In 2022, the two leaders were charged with using derogatory language directed at the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP) and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. The proceedings were held at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Khan and Chaudhry are both detained on separate charges, by a four-member panel of the ECP.The chief election commissioner and the electoral body were allegedly insulted by the two leaders, who were indicted for their crimes. Both refuted the accusations listed in the charge sheet while they were present in the courtroom when the charges were read. The panel postponed the contempt case hearing until January 16 following the indictment. The case was initially being heard in the ECP building, but the police refused to indict Khan for security reasons. As a result, the commission was forced to move the hearing to the Adiala Jail on December 6. The indictment follows several delays in the case. In April 2022, Khan was removed from office by a vote of no confidence. Over 150 cases have been filed against him since he was removed from office. JAMMU, Jan 3: For the public's safety, commercial buildings in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir are required to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras within 21 days. Vishesh Paul Mahajan, the district magistrate of Reasi, also requested that within the same time frame, the proprietors of hotels, guest houses, restaurants, dhabas, shopping centres, and other commercial establishments at Katra and Ransoo provide the police station and tehsildars with the employee records of their respective establishments. "The installation of CCTV outside such establishments would work as a force multiplier, which would inspire further confidence in general public/customers visiting these establishments to deter criminals, anti-social and anti-national elements from committing crimes," Mahajan said, ordering the CCTVs to be installed within 21 days. The order stated that any violation would result in the legal ramifications outlined in section 188 of the India Penal Code.In a separate order, Mahajan requested information about the workers in commercial buildings in Katra and Ransoo, stating that it was felt that employee verification was important for the public's safety as well as the safety of pilgrims visiting shrines. Within a 21-day period, the owners of the business establishments were requested to provide their respective police stations and tehsildars with information about their employees, including Aadhaar numbers, addresses, and mobile phone numbers. Fresh Protest Erupts In Indian Wrestling; This Time Against Bajrang, Sakshi & Vinesh

NEW DELHI, Jan 3: Hundreds of junior wrestlers gathered at Jantar Mantar in this city on Wednesday to voice their protest against the loss of a pivotal year in their careers, which they attributed to the actions of top grapplers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat. This development added a new dimension to the ongoing crisis in Indian wrestling. The junior wrestlers surprised the police by arriving from various parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, loaded into buses. Many of them were from the Virender Wrestling Academy in Narela, and nearly 300 of them were from the Arya Samaj Akhara in Chhaprauli, Baghpat. Many are still crammed into buses, and when more wrestlers show up at the historic protest site, they intend to get off and join their comrades.As they chanted anti-Punia, anti-Malik, and anti-Phogat slogans, the security guards found it difficult to keep them under control. The slogan "UWW save our wrestling from these 3 wrestlers" was flown by the demonstrators. Strangely, the top three wrestlers at the same protest location nearly a year ago were able to mobilise a sizable crowd in support of their cause when they demanded the arrest of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of harassing women wrestlers sexually. Thousands of supporters of Malik, Phogat, and Punia turned out from a variety of social groups, including farmers' organisations, social workers, politicians, women's organisations, and wrestling fraternity members.The three are currently the target of demonstrations from members of their community who have gathered at Jantar Mantar, claiming that they have ruined their careers. National teams and tournaments have not taken place since January 2023 because the WFI has been suspended twice and the sport is now governed by an ad hoc panel. Protesters on Wednesday called for the reinstatement of the suspended WFI following the dissolution of the ad hoc panel that the sports ministry had designated to oversee the sport. Karni Sena Chief Murder Case: NIA Raids 31 Places In Haryana, Rajasthan

New Delhi, Jan 3: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched 31 locations in Rajasthan and Haryana on Wednesday in relation to the death of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi. Following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Central agency registered a case last month, and raids are still ongoing at the residences of suspects connected to it. These searches were conducted by several NIA teams working closely with the state Police. The action was taken a few days after the Rajasthan Police case was taken over by the NIA due to the possibility that prominent gangsters were involved in the murder.Three gunmen shot and killed the Karni Sena chief on December 5 at his Jaipur, Rajasthan, home. Gangster Rohit Godara, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, took credit for Gogamedi's death shortly after it happened. On December 9, in Chandigarh, the two gunmen, Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji, were taken into custody. They told the police that Godara was the one who gave the order to kill. The main inquiry also discovered that the gunmen communicated with Godara's close assistants, Virendra Chahan and Danaram, during their escape.Officials believe that Godara and Gogamedi's disagreement over obtaining a ransom from certain businessmen may have contributed to the murder. Together with her husband, another woman has been detained in relation to the case; she is accused of supplying weapons and setting up lodging. Amidst the gunfire, the third gunman lost his life. CCTV footage of Gogamedi's murder showed two men shooting at the Karni Sena chief several times while a third man stood at the door. After Gogamedi was seen unconscious on the ground due to gunshot wounds, he was rushed to the hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him deceased. The security guard for Gogamedi who was hurt in the incident also passed away later. Arvind Kejriwal skips 3rd ED summons in Delhi excise policy case

NEW DELHI: AAP sources said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday disregarded the ED's third summons in the Delhi excise policy case and instead sent a written response denouncing the notice as unlawful. While claiming that Kejriwal was prepared to assist the agency, the Aam Aadmi Party said that the summons was sent with the goal of apprehending him. "Why was the notice sent so close to the election season?" The party claimed that the notice is an attempt to prevent Kejriwal from participating in election campaigning. Kejriwal was called in by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday to be questioned about a money laundering case related to excise policies.Kejriwal, who is also the convener of the AAP, received three ED notices in a row after he turned down two previous summonses from the federal agency for November 2 and December 21.
