Div Com Jammu reviews progress on Delhi Katra Expressway, Ring Road

JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar presided over a meeting of interested Deputy Commissioners and NHAI executives today to assess the status of the construction on the Jammu Ring Road Project and the Delhi Amritsar Katra Motorway Project. The meeting was attended by Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Deputy Commissioner for Jammu; Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner for Kathua; Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner for Samba; ACR Reasi, Chief Engineer for JPDCL; Project Directors for NHAI; and other relevant personnel. The Jammu Ring Road Project and the Delhi-Amritsar Katra Motorway were also closely investigated by the Div Com. It was notified that all executed packages had work ongoing. The Div Com also looked at the distribution of compensation and the acquisition of land.For the efficient completion of work on prestigious road projects, he gave the pertinent Deputy Commissioners instructions to resolve land difficulties and bottlenecks, if any, on a priority basis. Additionally, he gave them instructions to finish the payment of land acquisition payments in a timely way. The Div Com urged NHAI officers to keep in constant contact with the relevant Deputy Commissioners in order to handle minor remaining concerns, and it was reported that the majority of the land issues had been resolved. In order to meet the expressway's deadline for completion, NHAI officers were urged to speed up construction on the Delhi-Katra section. The Div Com strongly noted the slow development on the package falls in the Reasi district and gave the Project Director the order to hire extra workers and equipment for quick progress.The Divisional Commissioner emphasised the importance of maintaining surfaces where work has been done properly in order to ensure efficient traffic flow on the National Highway. The Div Com instructed Chief Engineer JPDCL to move a power line that was coming into the Ring Road project's route at Jagti as soon as possible while studying Ring Road. Dr Jitendra inaugurates Katra Navratri festival, expresses concern over drug menace

KATRA : Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, expressed his concern today about the drug epidemic that is now affecting the holy sites of Katra Vaishnodevi and Reasi district. The minister expressed his concern over hearing reports of an increase in juvenile substance usage in this area. In the previous two days, the Minister had review talks on the issue with the local government and police enforcement. In order to accomplish Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's goal of making India a developed country by 2047, Dr. Jitendra Singh pleaded with parents and the local government to wean children off of narcotics. He said that children's potential must be tapped into in this endeavour.He asserted that the sanctity of the holy city of Katra must be upheld and that it must serve as a model for societal principles. According to the minister, a strategy plan is being created at the social and local administration levels to combat drug addiction. He said that in order to stop the threat, hotspots would be found and social awareness would be raised. Dr. Jitendra Singh was addressing after the Central Bureau of Communication, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, opened the Navratri festival and Multimedia Exhibition in this location to commemorate the auspicious Navratras.The Government Boys' Higher Secondary School in Katra is hosting a week-long exhibition with the theme "9 Years of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan." The display takes place during Katra's Navratri Festival. Dr. Jitendra Singh, who spoke at the event, declared that the development of the area is the top priority of the administration at the Centre, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that over the past nine years, the area had undergone revolutionary transformation. Dr. Jitendra Singh mentioned infrastructure projects and stated that Reasi now boasts the highest railway bridge in the entire world. Soon, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Motorway will be completed.According to him, Katra was the second station in the nation to receive the Vande Bharat train, and when the rail line is completed with Kashmir Valley by the end of this year, Katra would be a significant junction. The Minister was informed that Katra was chosen for the Modi government's PRASAD programme and that it would soon also receive a Multimode Inter Station. Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shri Ghulam Abbas, stated in his speech that the division has been educating the people about government initiatives and projects. He stated that this show is a part of attempts to spread the word to the general public. Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ms. Babila Rakwal, SSP Reasi Amit Sharma, and DDC Chairman Reasi Sarv Singh Shashi Gupta, the chairman of the municipal council, Vice Chairman Ajay Baru, DDC members, PRIs, and other top administrators were present. Mughal road blocked due to snowfall, heavy rain in Jammu

POONCH: The Mughal road that connects Shopian in the Kashmir Valley to Poonch was blocked on Monday as the high-altitude portions of the Jammu region received additional snowfall and the plains were pummelling by rain. According to officials, the Pir ki Gali area's severe snowfall has obstructed the Mughal road. They warned that until the weather improves, no vehicles would be permitted to travel from the Poonch and Rajouri districts towards the valley. Mini-Bus Turns Turtle In Reasi, many Pilgrims Injured

Reasi : Several people were hurt in an accident involving a minibus carrying pilgrims in Jammu's Reasi area. According to reports, the tragedy happened early on Monday when a tourist minibus with the licence plate JK02AG 4643 overturned on the Katra-Reasi route close to Nau Deviya. A police officer who confirmed the accident to News Agency said the minibus had lost control and turned turtle while travelling from Katra to Shiv Khori. On board, some pilgrims were hurt. According to him, swift reaction teams quickly responded on the site and promptly supplied the injured with the required medical care before transporting them to CHC Katra for additional care. SC refers to 5-judge bench pleas challenging electoral bond scheme for political funding

NEW DELHI: On Monday, the Supreme Court forwarded a number of arguments contesting the legality of the electoral bond programme for funding political parties to a five-judge Constitution panel. Judges J. B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, along with Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, announced that they had received a request to refer the urgent case to a larger bench for a decision. The matter will be heard on October 30, the bench announced, as it was previously scheduled.The panel had earlier agreed to set the case for a final hearing after taking note of attorney Prashant Bhushan's arguments that the problem needed to be resolved before the electoral bond programme opened for the 2024 general elections. On this matter, four PILs are still open. In March, one of the PIL petitioners stated that, of the Rs 12,000 crore in electoral bonds that have been issued to date, two-thirds had gone to one major political party. As part of efforts to increase openness in political fundraising, electoral bonds have been proposed as an alternative to financial contributions made to political parties. JAMMU: Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced on Monday that the building of a 224-meter (2-lane) viaduct at Sher-e-Bibi has been completed successfully, improving connectivity throughout the area and facilitating travel through difficult terrain. A post on X said, We have successfully finished building a 224-meter (2-lane) viaduct at Sherebibi in Jammu and Kashmir, at an estimated cost of 12 crores. This infrastructure is located along the Ramban to Banihal portion of NH-44. "This 224-meter segment, as a part of the broader project, not only reduces the travel distance by 125 metres, thus mitigating steep gradients, but also avoids the need for a steep cutting with a hill slope angle exceeding 80 degrees."Additionally, it substantially eases traffic flow by avoiding the treacherous hills in the Sherebibi Area. It's crucial to remember that this project contributes to the region's economic development and improves connections everywhere. Fresh snowfall in parts of Kashmir, Ladakh, rain in plains

Srinagar, Oct 16: On Monday, fresh snowfall in some areas of the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh Union Territory as rain pounded the plains and temperatures plummeted. On Monday, sporadic light to moderate rain or snow is expected in J&K, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar. According to the MET office, the weather in J&K is currently cloudy with sporadic rain and snowfall over higher reaches at various locations.It stated that on October 17, sporadic light precipitation or snowfall over higher reaches was likely. The MeT office predicted that starting on October 18 the weather would likely start to improve overall. The MeT office further stated that Jammu and Kashmir may experience a considerable dip in temperature. Snow fell over Gurez in Bandipora, north Kashmir, and Peer Ki Gali on the Shopian-Poonch road on Monday. As a precaution due to the recent snowfall, vehicular traffic on Bandipora-Gurez Road was shut down.Along with Leh, Kargil, and Sanku in the Ladakh Union Territory, Drass, the second-coldest place on Earth after Siberia, experienced the first snowfall of the season on Monday. Leh and Kargil areas may get light to moderate snow showers through tomorrow. Additionally, the MeT office advised farmers to delay crop harvesting until October 17. The Met office said that the bad weather could momentarily hamper travel, particularly in susceptible areas like Zojila, Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, Sadnatop, etc. Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif stated that most districts of Jammu & Kashmir might anticipate moderate rain and snow showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. A few number of upper reaches may experience significant snowfall.The ski resort of Gulmarg (85%), the tourist destination of Sonamarg (85%), and Pahalgam (55%) also have snowfall prospects. He claimed that most locations in the Kashmir Valley, particularly today, could experience daytime temperatures below 14 °C, and that the Jammu region could also experience a considerable drop in daytime temperatures. Along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, there is a chance of landslides or shooting stones, he added. On Monday, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, reported a minimum temperature of 8.2°C, up from 8.6°C the previous day.According to the MeT office, the low temperature at the north Kashmiri ski resort of Gulmarg was 2.2°C, down from 2.8°C the day before. The temperature in Pahalgam, a well-known tourist resort in south Kashmir, dropped to 3.8°C from 4.5°C the night before. NEW DELHI, Oct 16: According to the Wholesale Price Index, wholesale inflation in India remained zero through September for the sixth consecutive month, according to official statistics released on Monday. It entered the negative range in April of this year. Similar to this, the WPI was reported to be negative in the early stages of Covid in July 2020. According to official figures issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, wholesale inflation in September was (-) 0.26 percent compared to (-) 0.52 percent in August and (-) 1.23 percent in July.The main cause of the deflation in September is a decrease in prices for food items, mineral oils, textiles, basic metals, and chemicals and chemical products when compared to the same month last year. Following the statistics ministry's announcement on October 12 that headline retail inflation had dropped to a three-month low of 5.02 percent in September, the WPI data was released on October 13. Every month on the 14th (or the following working day), the government publishes index numbers for wholesale pricing. The index figures are created using information gathered from official sources and particular manufacturing facilities located throughout the nation.In October 2022, wholesale inflation as a whole was 8.39 percent; it has subsequently decreased. Notably, up until September of last year, inflation measured by the wholesale price index (WPI) had reached double digits for 18 straight months. While still above the optimum 4% scenario, retail inflation in India is currently over the RBI's 2–6% comfort range in September. Retail inflation in September was 5.02 percent. With the exception of the most recent pauses, the RBI has increased the repo rate by a total of 250 basis points since May 2022 in an effort to combat inflation. UNITED NATIONS, Oct 16: Antonio Guterres, the head of the UN, has asked Israel to permit quick and unhindered access to humanitarian aid for Gaza Strip residents and has urged Hamas to free all hostages promptly and unconditionally. In response to continuous clashes with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, Israel has shut off all supplies of food, water, and gasoline.Israel will establish a "complete siege" on the region, according to Defence Minister Yoav Gallant's statement on Monday."As Secretary-General of the United Nations, it is my responsibility to make two strong humanitarian appeals at this dramatic moment, as we are on the brink of the abyss in the Middle East," Guterres said in a statement on Sunday. The UN Secretary-General pleaded with Hamas to swiftly and unconditionally free all hostages. For the benefit of the population in Gaza, Guterres emphasised that Israel must be given quick and unhindered access to humanitarian personnel and supplies."These two goals are both legitimate in and of themselves. They must be put into action because doing so is morally correct; they should not be used as negotiating chips.Gaza is running out of water, electricity, and other necessities, the UN chief sounded a stark warning. He pointed out that the UN has stores of food, water, non-food products, medical supplies, and gasoline in Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank, and Israel that can be sent in a matter of hours. "To ensure delivery, our selfless staff on the ground, along with NGO partners, need to be able to bring these supplies into and throughout Gaza safely, without impediment to deliver to those in need," Guterres said.Since the most recent battle between Israel and Hamas broke out following the militant group's attack on various locations within Israel on October 7 and Israel's subsequent declaration of war, the United Nations and other humanitarian organisations have been working around the clock to preposition aid. On Sunday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that Israel has continued to attack Gaza heavily from the air, sea, and land for nearly unbroken periods of time. The emergency shelters authorised by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) are home to about 300,000 people; the remainder are housed in public spaces and with host families. On Sunday, the OCHA reported that the city of Sderot in southern Israel had nearly completely been evacuated. Smaller Israeli settlements around Gaza have already been completely evacuated in recent days, and it's also been reported that many Ashqelon City inhabitants have also fled.According to the UN agency, 2,670 Palestinians have died and 9,600 have been injured since hostilities began. The number of Palestinian deaths in Gaza over the eight days Israeli warfare has now eclipsed the 2,251 deaths that occurred during the almost seven-week-long 2014 escalation. The Palestinian Civil Defence estimates that there may be more than 1,000 persons missing and presumed trapped under the rubble. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, as of October 15, 47 families, or roughly 500 persons, had died.
