SRINAGAR: LG Manoj Sinha chaired a high level meeting today to review arrangements for Muharram.The meeting at Civil Secretariat was attended by heads of religious organisations, eminent members of Shia Community; Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; M.K Sinha, ADGP Hqrs; Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir; Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Administrative Secretaries; Deputy Commissioners; Heads of Departments and other senior officers of UT administration.”This is the event that is most significant to our religions. The Lt. Governor stated that the UT administration and the Government of India are working sensitively and resolutely to make sure that all preparations are made for a hassle-free, secure, and peaceful celebration of Muharram. The Lt. Governor gave the Deputy Commissioners instructions to increase access to Imambaras, electricity supply, the provision of extra ration, water and basic amenities, conduct routine market inspections, control traffic and provide the best medical care feasible for the populace. He also asked the distinguished Shia Community representatives for their insightful opinions on the preparations for Muharram.The Lt. Governor promised to take immediate and necessary action to address the concerns and requests made throughout the exchange. The gathering was briefed by the Deputy Commissioners on the Muharram preparations and arrangements made in each area.
