SRINAGAR, Feb 2: The two days of closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway owing to snowfall and stone shooting at different locations have been partially lifted, according to officials. After restoration work at several locations was finished and stranded vehicles were cleared, traffic on the roadway was reopened today afternoon, according to a traffic police official. J&K traffic police posted on X said, “Commuters are advised to drive cautiously, as part of the road near Sherbibi is single lane and also slippery at several places.”For the second day in a row, surface travel to the rest of the country was halted on Friday in the Kashmir valley due to the highway being closed due to snowfall and stone shooting in many locations. To make Kishtwari Pather, Sherbibi, Magerkote, Mehad-Cafeteria, and Dalwas traffic-worthy, restoration work was done there. The crucial Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road connecting Ladakh and the historic Mughal road linking the Shopian district of south Kashmir with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu division have both been closed for the past three days due to snow accumulation.There were also reports of multiple roads in north Kashmir being closed because of snowfall, connecting distant locations. Nonetheless, in order to make the roads suitable for travel, snow removal efforts have been started in a number of locations.
