According to INSACOG, the number of cases of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 has surpassed 1,000. Uttar Pradesh is the most recent state to join the group of 16 states and union territories that have identified the virus. Karnataka has reported the most number of cases (214), followed by Maharashtra (170), Kerala (154), Andhra Pradesh (189), Gujarat (76), and Goa (66), according to statistics published by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). The data shows that Telangana and Rajasthan have each documented 32 JN.1 cases, while Tamil Nadu has recorded 22, Delhi has recorded 16, Uttar Pradesh has recorded 5, Haryana has recorded 6, Odisha has recorded 3, West Bengal has recorded 2, and Uttarakhand has recorded 1.The international body stated that the JN.1 sub-variant of the coronavirus was previously categorised as a variation of interest (VOI) as a component of the parent lineage that is categorised as a VOI, the BA.2.86 sub-lineages.
