SRINAGAR: A senior army commander stated on Friday that there is a persistent attempt from the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) to undermine the security situation and disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir since the hostile elements have not taken to normality well. Major General Girish Kalia, the General Officer Commanding (Vajr Division) of the security forces, stated at a press conference regarding Operation Shikanja, which was initiated along the Line of Control in the Machil sector of Kupwara, North Kashmir, that the security forces are dedicated to stopping any attempt by the enemy to disturb the security situation in the Union territory. Five militants were killed during their attempt to infiltrate. “In Kashmir, normalcy and prosperity have not fared well against the antagonistic forces.Maj Gen Kalia told reporters in Kupwara, “That is why there is a constant effort from across the LoC to disturb peace and vitiate the security environment in J-K.” “In the last eight months, we have had 10 such attempts in our divisional area of responsibility, which have resulted in the elimination of 27 terrorists, and recovery of a large quantity of war-like stores,” he stated. They will do this with firm resolve and unwavering devotion. The 56 Rashtrya Rifles unit’s commanding officer, Colonel Rajat Birman, provided information about the anti-infiltration operation. He claimed that on the night of October 25–26, a coordinated operation was started in the Machil sector along the LoC in response to specific intelligence input about an effort by a group of foreign terrorists to infiltrate.
