Cong : Govt Forced Digitalisation In MGNREGA, Using It As Tool To Discourage Demand For Scheme

NEW DELH, Oct 7: On Saturday, the Congress said that the Narendra Modi administration "forced digitalization" in MGNREGA under the guise of transparency, using it as a tactic to deter people who actually needed the programme from applying for it. After a media report suggested that six months into the fiscal year, the major rural employment project, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), has run out of money, Congress national secretary Jairam Ramesh attacked the government.Ramesh said in a post on X that the MGNREGA budgeted amount of Rs. 60,000 crore for the entire year had been spent over the same six-month period while 48% of all vehicles sold in India between April and September of this fiscal year were SUVs. It also reflects the Modi government's aims, which Ramesh claimed are indirectly stifling demand for MGNREGA employment by excessively delaying salary payments. "This not only clearly indicates the deepening rural distress and rising inequality across the country, but also demonstrates the Modi government's priorities," he said.The Modi administration, he claimed, "has forced digitalization in the name of transparency, while actually using it as a tool to discourage demand for MGNREGA among those who genuinely need the programme." On the one hand, SUVs accounted for 48% of all vehicle sales in India during April to September 2023. On the other hand, the Rs. 60,000 crore allocated under MGNREGA for the year 2023–24 has already been used up in the first six months of this fiscal year.This not only shows very clearly... pic.twitter.com/HWxDgeZ1X0 — Jairam Ramesh on October 7, 2023 (@Jairam_Ramesh) By "inordinately delaying" the funding of social audits, the Centre was accused last week by the Congress of carrying out a "planned euthanasia" of MGNREGS. According to the Congress, this compromises the process, which the government uses to withhold funds to the states. J&K Congress protests against BJP over Rahul poster

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress protested against the BJP on Friday after one of their social media posters depicted Rahul Gandhi as a "New Age Ravan." The BJP billboard on X had drawn sharp rebuke from the Congress, which on Thursday described it as "downright dangerous" and completely unacceptable. Numerous members of the Congress staged a protest march in the city under the leadership of former minister Yogesh Sawhney. They screamed anti-BJP chants and set BJP effigies on fire. "We denounce the BJP's actions. We are protesting to express our outrage at the BJP's dishonest behaviour. We attempted to hold demonstrations at the Raj Bhawan with a rally, but we were prohibited from doing so, Sawhney informed reporters. "Rahul ji is our leader and we cannot tolerate such language against him." According to Sawhney, he is the country's leader. "The citizens of this nation approve of him. The BJP is using such techniques because it is concerned about the rising public support for Rahul Ji, the speaker claimed. Mehbooba Hits Out At JK CS Over ‘Backdoor Appointments’ Remark

Jammu, Oct 6: Mehbooba Mufti, president PDP, slammed the chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday for saying that "undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means" and demanded that, if true, an investigation be launched. I believe the chief secretary ought to feel bad for stating this. Let him act if this is the case. They do little and speak highly. In response to Arun Kumar Mehta's comment made on Thursday, Mufti informed reporters that employers cannot provide jobs for educated unemployed youth; rather, they can only remove individuals from their jobs.On Thursday, the chief secretary remarked, "I feel ashamed to say that over 2.50 lakh undeserving candidates were given government jobs in J&K through illegal and backdoor means." He was speaking at an event in Kupwara, in north Kashmir. He had claimed that now only deserving people were awarded government employment. Mufti urged the chief secretary to launch an investigation and make the names of those behind such appointments public. "If such a thing exists, he ought to identify the perpetrator. The appointments made through the back doors involve officers. With them are the NIA, CBI, and ED. Let them pursue legal action against those accountable, she said.Mufti questioned the hiring practises used by the current administration, notably for jobs like sub-inspectors, apprentice engineers, and staff in the finance division. She said that several businesses on the blacklist participated in hiring drives. We should have an answer from the chief secretary first. During their tenure, personnel from the Jan Shakti, SI, and financial departments were hired. They harmed the youth's prospects by hiring individuals from companies that were on the blacklist for employment. They are currently in court, she said.The PDP leader cited claims made by IAS official Ashok Parmer of the Jal Shakti department, who asserted a staggering Rs 13,000 crore "scam" in the division. She insisted that the Chief Secretary immediately address these charges. Such problems, according to her, are eroding public confidence and worsening the situation of educated unemployed people. "Allegations of fraud and irregularity should be discussed by him (chief secretary). This entire government is rife with corruption, she declared. [caption id="attachment_3633"…

The Lt Governor declared that 70 percent of the work had already been finished.
