Div Com reviews implementation of Financial Assistance Scheme for PoJK DPs, West Pakistani Refugees

JAMMU:A meeting to review the implementation of the Financial Assistance Scheme for Displaced Persons and West Pakistani Refugees was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today. Provincial Rehabilitation Officer Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Deputy Commissioners from Jammu were present. The District Committee gathered information on beneficiaries by district from the corresponding Deputy Commissioners regarding cases that have been approved and those that are still pending. The Div Com instructed the Deputy Commissioners to oversee the implementation process personally and urged them to saturate the Scheme with all eligible beneficiaries. "Spread mass awareness among the targeted beneficiaries to ensure that the benefits reach to the last person in the queue" he stated.To identify and address any bottlenecks, the Div Com requested that the DCs call a meeting with all relevant parties, including the DPs and West Pakistani Refugees. The DCs were also instructed by the Div Com to conduct camps in the areas where the targeted population resides and to designate senior officers in their office. ED Officers Attacked During Raid In Bengal; Oppn Demands President’s Rule

KOLKATA, Jan 5: During a raid in West Bengal, the supporters of a TMC leader attacked Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers. This led to a political standoff, with the opposition demanding the imposition of President's Rule and Governor C V Ananda Bose indicating his intention to look into constitutional options and take appropriate action. The Congress has urgently called for the imposition of President's Rule after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described the incident at Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district as a direct assault on the federal structure.However, the ruling TMC dismissed the accusations and charged that locals had been incited by central agency officials. The incident happened when ED officers raided TMC leader Sheikh Sajahan's home and were attacked by his supporters. As a result, both the officers' vehicles and their own were seriously damaged. State Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick, who was detained in relation to the multi-crore ration distribution scam, is thought to have had close assistance from Sajahan. An important component of the agency's ongoing investigation into the multi-crore ration distribution scam was this operation.During the raid, a large number of TMC loyalists attacked ED officials and central forces personnel, forcing the officers to flee in autorickshaws and two-wheelers and abandon their damaged vehicles. In a democracy, it is the responsibility of a civilised government to put an end to vandalism and barbarism. In a voice message issued from the Raj Bhavan, Bose stated, "As a Governor, I explore all of my constitutional options for appropriate action in the appropriate manner." West Bengal is not a "banana republic," he added.The government needs to face the consequences or open its eyes to reality and act accordingly. In an audio statement, Bose stated, "The police should stop acting like ostriches and pretending not to notice the lawlessness around them. The incident set off a political firestorm in West Bengal, where opposition parties denounced the state of law and order that was rapidly deteriorating. The failure of the corresponding state governments to provide central agency officers with sufficient security was highlighted by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik, who said, "The attack on the officers of the central agency is an attack on the federal structure of the state."He stated that the Centre is paying close attention to the incident and is determined to find out why West Bengal experiences these kinds of things on a regular basis. Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request the imposition of President's Rule in the state and an expeditious National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe. In order to protect the safety of the Bengali people, he wrote on X, "I have written to the Hon'ble Home Minister @AmitShahJi to initiate NIA investigation into the matter as the law and order situation in WB has crumbled thanks to @AITCofficial, post the heinous attack on the ED officials at Sandeshkhali." Chandigarh, Jan 5: During searches by the Enforcement Directorate against former INLD MLA Dilbag Singh and his associates, foreign-made weapons, approximately 300 cartridges, Rs 5 crore cash and more than 100 spirits bottles were found, according to official sources on Friday. On Thursday, the central agency began raiding the residence of Sonipat Congress MLA and former legislator Surender Panwar. The raids were related to a money laundering case involving suspected illicit mining in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana. The sources said that from the locations connected to Singh and his associates, approximately Rs 5 crore in cash, alleged "illegal" foreign-made weapons, about 300 cartridges, more than 100 spirits bottles, 4-5 kg of gold, and documents pertaining to assets in India and abroad had been recovered.They said that searches are still ongoing at some locations. The two politicians and associated entities had about 20 locations in Yamunanagar, Sonipat, Mohali, Faridabad, Chandigarh, and Karnal covered during the raids carried out in accordance with the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act). Singh was a Yamunanagar-based member of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). The money laundering case is the result of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by the Haryana Police to investigate past alleged illegal mining of boulders, gravel, and sand in Yamunanagar and surrounding districts, even after the lease had expired and a court order had been issued. The central agency is also looking into claims of fraud in the "e-Ravana" scheme, an online portal that the Haryana government launched in 2020 to make it easier to collect taxes and royalties and to stop tax evasion in mining areas. JAMMU: Anil Gupta, senior vice president, Rajeev Gupta, junior vice president, Manish Gupta, secretary general, and Rajesh Gupta, secretary, led a delegation from the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry to meet with Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road, Transport, and Highways in New Delhi. According to him, the blind walls might not be in line with the community's present needs, which could lead to problems for locals, impede emergency services, and affect pedestrians' everyday commutes. He made note of the fact that this area is primarily used for commercial purposes. This region is home to a wide range of commercial operations, including small-scale services, retail, malls, hospitals, and wholesale. A wholesale fruit market, a mandi, and garages for heavy vehicles, including bodybuilding units for trucks and buses, are located approximately 6 km from the project starting point at 515 KM +000. About 502 commercial establishments will be affected by the project, including 365 retail stores, 10 car showrooms with both private and public vehicles, construction equipment and service centres, 37 godowns, 5 schools, 65 office spaces, 7 hospitals, 5 malls, and 8 shops housed in sheds in both public and private buildings. The impact of the livelihood would extend beyond the businesses to the households (HH) who would lose their stores. Since godowns are only used to support businesses, losing them will have a direct impact on a household's source of income in addition to causing inconvenience with regard to storing goods. As a result, 587 commercial establishments will face a loss of revenue due to this, which will have an immediate effect on Jammu's economy. Since both residential and commercial areas are included in the section from Kunjwani to Narwal, we think a community-friendly pillar-based design for the motorway flyover would be more appropriate.We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the construction of a proposed flyover from Kunjwani to Satwari section, up to the Government College for Women in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, is putting the livelihood of sixty-five shopkeepers in grave danger. The proposed flyover design puts these shopkeepers, who have operated their businesses for more than 60 years, in danger of losing their jobs. Recognising how vital these companies are to the neighbourhood, we humbly ask that the flyover be moved slightly—by 1.5 meters—in order to preserve the jobs of at least 45 store owners. This change would demonstrate the government's support for regional companies while also protecting these families' financial security. NEW DELHI: According to official sources on Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate may send Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a fourth summons to participate in the investigation into the purported excise policy case after reviewing his response regarding his refusal to appear before the agency. The 55-year-old national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declined to appear before the ED for the third time on Wednesday. She claimed that the ED's "non-disclosure and non-response approach" could not uphold the standards of justice, equity, or the law, and that the ED's "obstinacy" amounted to the agency taking on the roles of jury, judge, and executioner. According to the sources, Kejriwal's five-page response to the case's investigating officer, which he sent on Wednesday, is presently being examined by the ED, which may dismiss his claims that the summons was unlawful. According to the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the agency might send Kejriwal its fourth summons, they said. Previously, on November 2, December 21, 2023, and January 3 of this year, he was asked to surrender. JAMMU: During a public grievance redressal camp held at the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate Jammu North, District Development Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya today called for increased societal cooperation in combating the drug menace. SHO Janipur actively participated in the delicate discussions about drug eradication that took place in the camp. The DDC emphasised the importance of working together: "Public support is critical to make the society truly drug-free, even as the administration is committed to cracking down on drug peddlers and creating awareness." In addition to this important subject, the camp tackled several other public issues. Additionally, ex-municipal corporators raised awareness of important public needs by speaking out. Sachin Kumar Vaishya emphasised the significance of close citizen-administrator cooperation. "Change can sometimes be met with initial resistance, but united we can overcome any obstacle," he said.
