MHA Cancels FCRA Registration Of Centre For Policy Research Charging Violation Of Certain Norms

NEW DELHI, Jan 17: The Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a preeminent institute for public policy research in New Delhi, has had its registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) revoked by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) due to purported violations of specific foreign financing guidelines. Yamini Aiyar, President of CPR, stated, "The FCRA has been cancelled via order received on January 10
and the institution will weigh its options to seek justice." One of the reasons for the termination, according to the MHA, was reports on "current affairs programmes" that were released by CPR. The FCRA registration of CPR was suspended for 180 days, and then the suspension was extended for an additional 180 days. The MHA took action about a year later. In February of last year, the MHA suspended CPR's FCRA licence. Since its founding in 1973, the CPR has been a preeminent policy think tank, focusing on the problems facing India in the twenty-first century while doing sophisticated and in-depth research on a broad range of policy-relevant topics. The Income Tax administration carried out a "survey" operation against CPR and two other charities earlier in September 2022 as part of an investigation into their foreign funding. The organisations were Oxfam India and the Independent and Public-Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF), situated in Bengaluru. Due to MHA's refusal to renew its FCRA licence in December 2021, Oxfam India's foreign funding is likewise barred in India. In parallel, Oxfam India is being looked at by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Subsequently, the CPR challenged the suspension of its licence in the Delhi High Court.The MHA then argued that CPR should no longer receive foreign funds because of worries that the organisation would receive donations from outside for unfavourable uses that may harm the nation's economic interests. The MHA had further charged that the CPR had violated the FCRA by moving foreign contributions to other organisations and depositing them in non-designated accounts. “Entire country is ‘Rammay’…Lord Ram also symbol of good governance”: PM Modi in Andhra Pradesh

PALASAMUDRAM (ANDHRA PRADESH): Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday that the nation is deeply religious ahead of the Pran Pratishtha event at the Ayodhya temple on January 22. He also noted that Lord Ram is a symbol of good governance in society and that his influence extends well beyond devotion. The Prime Minister expressed optimism that NACIN will expand the scope of good governance and advance trade and commerce in India during the official opening of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics' new campus. The prime minister declared that the entire nation is "Rammay" throughout his speech, which included multiple allusions to the Ramayana. The whole nation is called Rammay and is devoted to Lord Ram, yet the scope of Lord Ram's existence, his source of inspiration, and his faith go far beyond devotion. "Lord Ram is a representation of socially responsible governance, and your organisation may find great inspiration in him," he remarked. The prime minister also mentioned his earlier in the day visit to the Veerbhadra Temple in the Lepakshi region of the state, where he claimed to have heard passages from the Telugu version of the Ranganatha Ramayan. He mentioned that many think that somewhere around here, Lord Ram had a conversation with Jatayu. "You are aware that I am performing an 11-day special ritual in front of Pran Prathistha at Ayodhya. I consider myself fortunate to have visited the temple at this fortunate time," the PM remarked.It is believed that Jatayu fell at Lepakshi after suffering severe injuries at the hands of Ravan, who had kidnapped Sita. It's also reported that Jatayu informed Lord Ram that Sita had been taken south by Ravan and that Lord Ram had afterwards bestowed moksha upon her. On January 22, there will be a Pran Pratishtha ceremony for Ramlala at the Ayodhya temple. According to PM Modi, NACIN ought to give India access to a cutting-edge trade and commerce ecosystem. In order to establish India as a significant global trading partner, he added, amicable conditions must be created. This includes facilitating business dealings with taxes, customs, and drugs. "We ought to fund social welfare with the money raised through taxation. India's tax system was once very convoluted. We introduced transparency and a distinctive tax structure to the nation with the GST. We started a system of anonymous tax assessments. The amount of taxes collected has increased to an unprecedented degree as a result of all these initiatives. The collections are held in the State treasury and given back to the public through a variety of programmes," he stated. Panchayat, ULB Polls In J&K Soon After Process Of OBC Reservation Concludes: LG Sinha

BARAMULLA, Jan 16:  On Tuesday, Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, declared that panchayat and urban local body elections would "definitely" take place in the Union territory following the implementation of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) reservation. He claimed that people who denied local bodies funding while they were in power were now politicising the matter and calling for a return to the previous state of affairs, but "we will not allow that." "I wish to inform my colleagues who served as panchs, sarpanches, and ULB representatives that the administration has begun the process of reserving seats for other backward classes, as required by the constitution following the enactment of the State Reorganisation Act."I want to reassure you that ULBs and Panchayat elections would undoubtedly be held in Jammu and Kashmir following the conclusion of this exercise. Here, Sinha stated, "I want to state that they will undoubtedly be held. Speaking to a crowd, he had just opened a stadium in the Baramulla area of north Kashmir that bears the name of General Bipin Rawat, the nation's first chief of military staff. People are aware of their objectives, according to Sinha, who said that some were engaging in political posturing due to the votes' prolonged delay. Politics is being played by some on the topic. People who strangled Panchayats and ULBs are now beginning to recall them. I don't want to say anything, but I believe that everyone in this room is well aware of those individuals' identities and motivations.He declared, "I want to assure you that we will not allow Panchayats to return to the same situation and that everything should happen through them." He urged everyone to take part in Republic Day ceremonies and fly the tricolour proudly, especially the younger generation. "I implore you to participate heavily in the 'Jhanda Ooncha Rahay Hamara' initiative. "I desire for Tiranga to fill the skies above Baramulla," he declared. India Is Now Seen As ‘Strong And Powerful’ Nation: Rajnath Singh

LUCKNOW, Jan 16: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh claimed on Tuesday that the belief that India was a weak nation had changed during the last nine years, attributing this to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserting that the country is now regarded as "strong and powerful." Speaking during the "Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra" in his parliamentary district, the home minister stated that the global view of India has now shifted. "Today, nobody views India as weak. We are now seen as a formidable nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves all the credit for this, Singh stated."No power in the world can dare to show eyes to us when the country and countrymen are strong," he continued. According to Singh, this is the first time a government has knocked on people's doors in post-independence India to make sure they take advantage of various assistance packages. "If someone who qualifies for the schemes is not receiving benefits, our prime minister is quite concerned and anxious. He used to ask us to make sure our constituency's beneficiaries were reached by the programmes," he continued. Singh stated that when Modi took office as prime minister, India's economy was ranked 10th in the world; it is currently ranked fifth.Economists believe this is a result of Modi's appeal. If everything proceeds as planned, the Indian economy would rank in the top three by 2027 and will be the strongest by 2047, the speaker continued. Speaking at a function in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir, the LG stated that the region is now experiencing a dry winter. "I ask God to provide snow because power projects depend on it to function; without it, they would fail. Snowfall is also necessary to maintain the health of the tourism industry, he stated.According to the LG, 13 lakh people came to Gulmarg last year, with the snow serving as a key draw. "In the Baramulla district, six new destinations have been added to the list, but tourists would prefer to stay away in the absence of snow," he stated. LG stated that with the completion of OBC reservations, elections for Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will take place shortly. Elections for Panchayats and ULBs will be held after the process is completed, he stated. "Work is going on towards that direction."On January 26, Republic Day, the LG asked the people of Baramulla to participate in the Jhanda Ooncha Rahay Hamara programme in big numbers. He declared, "I want Tiranga to fill the skies of Baramulla." According to him, the Baramulla district is thriving on all fronts thanks to the young people's active participation. Difficult To Attend Ram Temple Consecration As BJP Has Turned It Into Political Event: Rahul Gandhi

NAGALAND, Jan 16: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, stated on Tuesday that the BJP and the RSS have transformed the consecration of the Ram temple on January 22 into a “political event” based around Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making it difficult for the leaders of his party to attend. His comments came a few days after the high brass of the Congress rejected an invitation to the ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, during a press conference held in conjunction with the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The prime minister is the focal point of politics during the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple. It is challenging for us to go since the BJP and the RSS are giving it an election flavour," Gandhi remarked. "We find it challenging to participate in the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple because the BJP and the RSS, our main rivals, have hijacked the event and made it an election event," he stated. The leader of the Congress party said that the opposition INDIA bloc will beat the BJP in the next Lok Sabha elections. According to him, the talks for seat sharing among the partners in the INDIA bloc are proceeding nicely. "I have faith that minor issues within the INDIA bloc will be settled, and we will defeat the BJP as a group. We are discussing seat sharing with our allies in the INDIA bloc. The talks are going quite well, Gandhi reported. He declared that the opposition alliance will come together and win the Lok Sabha election. The yatra started on January 14 in Thoubal, Manipur, and arrived in Nagaland on Monday night. The march, which will take place primarily by bus but also on foot over 6,713 miles through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 15 states, will come to an end on March 20 or 21 in Mumbai.
