RAJOURI: On Thursday, an officer is accused of opening fire and detonating grenades inside a camp in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring at least five army troops, three of whom were officers. During a shooting practise session, the officer, who was reportedly a major, opened fire on his teammates without warning. He then took cover in the unit's armoury and threw grenades at his superiors as they approached the building in an attempt to convince him to surrender, according to the sources. Before the officer was defeated inside the armoury, the tense scenario lasted over eight hours. The incident happened at the Neeli post in the district, close to Thanamandi.According to them, as a precaution, the army evacuated a town near to the armoury. The army, on the other hand, asserted that an officer was hurt at a position near Rajouri in what was most likely a grenade accident. "On October 5th, an officer was hurt at a position in the Rajouri area in what was most certainly a grenade accident. Officer was taken to the hospital and is now stable. Additional inquiry on the incident is ongoing, the army's White Knight Corps announced on X. NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) was deemed an illegal association for a period of five years by the central government on Thursday. The JKDFP was designated as a "Unlawful Association" by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in accordance with Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967. The move, according to the notification, is based on information that the group has been engaged in "anti-national activities since 1998 and its members have always promoted separatism and terrorist acts in India."By stirring the populace, the members of this organisation hope to turn Kashmir into a distinct Islamic state, endangering India's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Numerous criminal proceedings have been filed against this group under the UAPA of 1967, the IPC of 1860, the Arms Act of 1959, and the Ranbir Penal Code of 1932. Shabir Ahmad Shah, a well-known separatist known for his pro-Pakistan and anti-India rhetoric, founded the JKDFP in 1998. The members of the JKDFP have been at the forefront of secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and want to establish a separate Islamic State, according to the MHA notification. Shabir Ahmad Shah had described Kashmir as a "dispute" and rejected any resolution within the parameters of the Indian Constitution. According to the notification, "The leader or members of the JKDFP have been engaged in raising funds through various sources, including Pakistan and its proxy organisations, for perpetrating unlawful activities, including supporting terrorist activities, sustained stone-pelting on Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The notification also claims that the JKDFP and its members have shown the country's constitutional authorities and system of government nothing but utter disdain through their actions. "The JKDFP and its leaders or members, especially its founder Shabir Ahmad Shah, have engaged in illegal actions that are detrimental to the integrity, sovereignty, security, and inter-communal harmony of the nation. Numerous reports have indicated connections between the JKDFP and outlawed terrorist groups, according to the warning. The JKDFP and its members have engaged in violent terrorist activities with the aim of sowing terror throughout the nation, endangering state security and public order. Additionally, the organization's anti-national activities demonstrate disrespect for the state's constitutional authority and sovereignty, necessitating prompt action, according to the notification. JAMMU: Anand Jain (IPS) was nominated by the government as the Inspector General of Police for the Jammu Zone on Thursday. The 1999-batch IPS officer relieves Mukesh Singh (IPS), ADGP Jammu Zone, of the additional responsibility of the position he had held for a long time, in accordance with a government decision. "In compliance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India's Order issued under endorsement F.No.140/03/2022-UTS.I dated 19.09.2023, Mukesh Singh, IPS (AGMUT: 1996), Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, is relieved from the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, to enable him to take up new assignment with the Government of India," states a government order. According to the order, "As a result of the foregoing, Anand Jain, IPS (AGMUT:1999), Director, Anti Corruption Bureau, J&K, is transferred and posted as Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, with immediate effect. The officer shall also hold the post of Director, Anti Corruption Bureau, J&K, until further orders. JAMMU: Street lights are being installed in two phases in each of the 75 wards under the authority of the Jammu Municipal Corporation. According to the JMC, the installation of 61300 street lights has been finished under phase I, and work is currently being done to install street lights under phase II. About 31500 of the 35130 street lights in phase II have been installed. According to the agreement made by the departments of housing and urban development, EESL, and power development, work is now being done on installation and commissioning. PDD is required by the agreement to make the entire infrastructure, i.e. EESL is needed to provide poles, phase wire, and related accessories for the installation of these street lights, as well as street lights of different wattages based on the demands of the area. The contract states that the JMC is in charge of managing and funding the maintenance of these street lights. The three parties' agreement states that the ESSL is in charge of providing the necessary street light accessories and of maintaining them for a term of seven years. The JMC is mandated by the contract to cover the cost of maintaining street lights, although it only does so for the 61300 finished street lights. SRINAGAR, Oct 5: Ashiq Hussain, Patwari, Halqa Sharifabad, District Budgam, is caught by the ACB while collecting a bribe of $100,000 for entering information in revenue records. The Anti-Corruption Bureau received a written complaint alleging that Ashiq Hussain, Patwari, Halqa Sharifabad, Budgam, is seeking a bribe of $100,000 for the online entry of the complainant's land into the Revenue records, or Jamabandi. In order to pursue legal action against the accused public official in accordance with the pertinent legal rules, the complainant submitted a written complaint to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.After receiving the complaint, police station ACB Srinagar registered Case FIR No. 21/2023 U/S 7 PC Act 1988 and began an inquiry. A trap team was formed during the investigation. The team's trap was successful, and the accused public worker Ashiq Hussain, Patwari, Halqa Sharifabad, Budgam was apprehended while soliciting and collecting a bribe from the complainant in the amount of $100,000. After finishing all the paperwork, he was immediately taken into custody. The matter is currently the subject of more investigation. KUPWARA: In the Union Territory of J&K, over 2.50 lac employment were handed to undeserving individuals through backdoor ways, according to Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta on Thursday. Speaking at a ceremony in Kupwara, north Kashmir, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta remarked, "I feel humiliated to say that over 2.50 lac undeserving persons had been offered government employment in J&K through illegal and backdoor tactics. He claimed that the current administration, which is being led by the lieutenant governor, is steadfast in its commitment to halt backdoor appointments and to give educated youth ways of earning a respectable living."Backdoor methods will not be used to provide employment. Poor children who were previously denied basic rights and employment would now have them, according to Mehta.He continued, "But I want to bring facts to the fore that 30,000 employment were offered to J&K youth in the previous three years. Some groups are circulating lies about the administration claiming it has ceased recruitment operations. He further stated that the days when government posts were awarded through nepotism and corruption and when the rights of the underprivileged were stolen were long behind. "Those who deserve government work will be accorded their rightful rights, while those who don't deserve should choose alternative sources of support. SRINAGAR: Director of Health Kashmir, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, stated on Thursday that the health department in Kashmir has collected fines of more than 1.5 lac rupees from offenders in 2023 in an effort to curtail the issue of tobacco use in public areas. Speaking to media representatives on the sidelines of a one-day media sensitization workshop for the national tobacco control programme, he emphasised the critical need for public support in achieving this goal and stated that the push for a tobacco-free environment is not only a matter of law but also a public health imperative.Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather emphasised the value of public support in the struggle against cigarette usage. He emphasised that without the active participation of the public, no programme or effort to address any issue can genuinely be successful. Positively, a sizable share of the fines gathered is evidence of residents' desire to follow tobacco control laws. Dr. Rather also emphasised that smoking is a problem in homes as much as in public settings. Children and elderly family members may suffer negative impacts from smoking in residential areas.According to a recent survey done in conjunction with the Social Welfare Department, 50,000 out of 70,000 people were discovered to be intravenous drug users. He quoted this data. Alarming findings showed that many of these drug users, including minors, had a history of smoking. Dr. Rather emphasised the connection between substance misuse and smoking, calling for a holistic strategy to address both problems. He said that additional treatment facilities (ATF) centres had been constructed in each district of the valley to address the growing concern about substance misuse, particularly among young people. According to him, these facilities work to give those in need the help and intervention they require, utilising a wholistic strategy to combat addiction and advance better lifestyles.
