SRINAGAR, Feb 8: On Thursday, agents of the law retrieved explosives from the town of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir. Mercury plummets in J&K as Srinagar, Jammu record lowest Feb temp in decade

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir saw a dip in mercury on Thursday, with Srinagar recording minus 5.2°C and 3.6°C, respectively. These are the capital cities' second-lowest February minimum temperatures in a decade. According to a representative of the meteorological department, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 5.2°C, which was lower than the previous night's low of minus 2.0°C and 4.8°C below average for this time of year for J&K's summer capital. According to the official, the capital city's all-time low temperature was reached on February 6, 1985, when the mercury dropped to minus 20°C. On February 9, 2019, Srinagar recorded minus 5.7°C. According to him, Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.4°C as opposed to minus 3.2°C the night before. According to the MeT official, the minimum temperature was 4.9°C lower than usual for Kashmir's gateway town. Pahalgam saw a low of minus 11.9°C, which was 5.7°C below average for the well-known south Kashmir resort, compared to minus 10.8°C the night before. According to the official, Kokernag, located in south Kashmir, saw a minimum temperature of minus 4.5°C, down from minus 4.3°C the night before. The temperature was 2.5°C below average for the area. According to the official, Kupwara town in north Kashmir saw a low of minus 4.5°C, down from minus 3.3°C the night before. It was also 3.4°C below normal there. Police arrests bovine smuggler with sharp edged weapons

SAMBA: In the intervening night of February 6 and 7, Samba police apprehended a notorious cattle smuggler brandishing a sharp-edged weapon, rescued eleven bovines, and seized three vehicles, including a Scorpio. All of these incidents occurred within the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Ghagwal. During their vehicle checking duty at Naka NHW Tapyal, a police party from Police Station (PS), Ghagwal, led by SHO PS Ghagwal, motioned for a Scorpio car with registration number DL4CNB-5060 to stop for inspection. However, the driver increased his speed, struck a barricade, and left the naka point. The car was pursued by the vigilant police naka team, who stopped it a short distance from naka point.When the car was being inspected, it was discovered that two cows that were being transported illegally and without authorization were loaded inside the Scorpio car. One "toka" has also been found in the custody of the infamous bovine smuggler, Jamat Ali alias Kalu, son of Siraj Din of Maralian, Miran Sahib tehsil RS Pura district Jammu. Jamat Ali has been detained. At Police Station Ghagwal, a case FIR No. 12/2024 U/S 307/188 IPC, 11 PCA Act, 4/25 Arms Act, and 3 PDPP Act has been registered, and an investigation has begun. Two further attempts to smuggle cattle have been thwarted in a collaborative operation involving Police Post (PP) Rajpura, Border Police Post Babber Nallah, and Border Police Post Mawa. Both the vehicle with registration number PB07BX-3253, loaded with four cows, and the vehicle with registration number PB13BM-8857, laden with five bovines, were stopped close to Madwal and Madoon, respectively, and all nine cows were saved. Nevertheless, by taking advantage of the darkness, the drivers of both cars were able to flee the scene. At Police Station Ghagwal, cases FIR Nos. 13/2024 and 14/2024 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act have been recorded, and an investigation has begun. Over 10,000 BJP workers to undertake Gaon Chalo Abhiyan from Feb 8: Raina

JAMMU: According to J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina, the party's ten thousand workers would embark on a "Gaon Chalo Abhiyan" campaign that will see them visit various rural and urban districts of the UT between February 8 and 10. MD JPDCL visits Data Centre; directs for 24×7 availability of customer care executives

JAMMU: Today, Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) warned negligent customers that they would face harsh consequences for any such behaviour on their side and sternly urged the officers to maintain a watchful eye out for instances of illegal connections, metre tampering, and billing irregularities. When Vikas Kundal, the managing director of JPDCL Jammu, paid an unexpected visit to the data centre and customer care centre at Gladni Grid Station, Narwal, he gave these instructions to the pertinent employees. The MD warned that metre tampering puts consumers' safety at risk by posing a risk of electrical fires, explosions and other safety concerns that could have serious effects, even as he urged them to abstain from any criminal conduct of this kind.Conversely, it will force customers to deal with frequent power outages as a result of their own negligence in engaging in connecting up or tampering with metres. He instructed the employees to closely monitor the hooking and bypassing of metres via online mode and to report any instances of such behaviour to the relevant sub-divisions so that the defaulters would face harsh consequences. DC Jammu prohibits news portals from sharing posts having potential to disturb peace, harmony

JAMMU: On Wednesday, the district's social media news sites were asked by the Jammu authorities to desist from publishing any content that would jeopardise public calm, communal harmony, or tranquilly. The Deputy Commissioner Jammu stated in an order that the disinformation being shared on social media platforms by people posting and sharing offensive, discriminatory, and provocative messages has given rise to the appearance that there is a serious risk of a breach of peace and order and disturbance of public tranquilly, which could pose a serious risk to people's lives and property. He stated that any disturbance of public peace and order and any breach of law and order that could put lives in severe danger should be avoided.According to him, it is preferable that any disturbance of public peace and order that poses a serious risk to people's lives or property be stopped right away. He continued by saying that there is enough evidence to move forward under Section 144 of The Code of Criminal Procedure and to forbid anyone operating in Jammu on social media platforms or portals from publishing or disseminating any content that could jeopardise public peace, communal harmony, or tranquilly. "The order shall come into force with immediate effect and any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860," he stated.
