AC approves Rs 26.87 Cr for construction of Nallahs from Peerkho to Dounthly

JAMMU: The project to build nallahs on the right bank of the Tawi River from Peerkho Main to Dhounthly was approved by the Administrative Council (AC), which met here under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 26.87 crores and will be funded through the Capex Budget. Attending the meeting were Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, the Lieutenant Governor's principal secretary, Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary, and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, the advisor.The project was created in accordance with guidelines provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for reducing pollution in the Tawi River by treating and diverting untreated wastewater that would otherwise fall into the river from storm water drains. In addition to guaranteeing compliance with the directives of the NGT and CPCB regarding the mitigation of pollution in the River Tawi here, this will ensure proper drainage and sewerage network of the area, which will directly benefit the households/local inhabitants. JKP seize drug peddler’s property in Kupwara district

KUPWARA: In the Kupwara district of the state, the Jammu and Kashmir Police confiscated the possessions of a drug dealer on Wednesday in the Mawer area of Handwara. More than five canals of orchard land that belonged to Amir Mukhtiyar Malik, a well-known drug dealer, were taken by the police. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 was used to seize the property. In September of this year, the Jammu and Kashmir police had previously seized the assets of a well-known drug dealer in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, valued at Rs 7.88 lakh. After taking the drug dealer's property, Jammu and Kashmir police stated, "Police in Pulwama attached a single-storey, under-construction house valued at approximately 7.88 lacs belonging to a notorious drug peddler, namely Zahoor Ahmad Wani, son of Ab Rehman Wani, located in Jindwall village, Tehsil Pulwama, District Pulwama under the NDPS Act 1985." ‘Will ensure justice’: Singh meets families of 3 slain civilians in Rajouri

RAJOURI: The families of three civilians who were allegedly killed in custody just hours after being picked up by the security forces on December 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday. In addition to visiting the Government Medical College (GMC) to find out the whereabouts of four other "torture" victims, he promised the surviving victim's family that justice would be served. By midday, six people—two from each of the deceased's families—had arrived in Rajouri. Singh arrived in the town in the afternoon and met the families in Dak Bungalow with the help of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Manoj Pande.Attending the meeting were a number of District Development Council (DDC) members, as well as former legislators and representatives of civil society. After meeting the other victims in the GMC hospital, Singh told the media, "Whatever has happened...there will be justice." On December 21, terrorists ambushed Armymen's vehicles at Dhatyar Morh, between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in Poonch, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers and the injuries of three more. Three civilians, Safeer Hussain (43), Mohd Showket (27), and Shabir Ahmad (32) were reportedly taken up by the Army for questioning after the attack; they were subsequently discovered dead on December 22. Social media users shared the allegedly captured video clips of the citizens being tortured while in custody. Mohd Zulfkar, his brother Mohd Betab, Fazal Hussain, and Mohd Farooq were among the four additional individuals who were brought to the GMC hospital on Friday. It is said that during the counterterrorism operation, the troops physically assaulted them in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri. The Thanamandi forest belt and Surankote are still the sites of ongoing terrorist searches. Former MLC Shahnaz Ganai was quoted by the news agency as saying, "The defence minister met with the families of the civilians and civil society and assured action against the guilty after an inquiry into the incident." Attending the meeting at Dak Bungalow, Ganai expressed optimism that the victim's family would receive justice following the visit of the defence minister.In addition to denouncing this incident, we honour our gallant soldiers and offer our condolences to their families. The people of Rajouri-Poonch will not permit hostile parties, either domestically or internationally, to profit from incidents of this nature, declared Ganai. JAMMU, Dec 27: On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged the Indian Army not to make any such "mistakes" that could harm the nation's citizens, but he also expressed his complete confidence in the army's ability to eradicate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. Singh, who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the day to assess the security situation, stated that it is the troops' duty to uphold national security while also winning over the hearts of the populace. Singh is visiting Rajouri and Jammu for the day in the wake of a terrorist attack in Poonch.The minister's remarks coincide with the fury that followed the discovery of three dead civilians in Poonch district on December 22, purportedly as a result of their being apprehended by security forces for interrogation in relation to an ambush on two army vehicles that had claimed the lives of four soldiers the day before. After the attack, the army allegedly picked up three civilians, ages 27 to 42, to question them. The next day, they were discovered dead. KULGAM: Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, stated on Wednesday that while he had no expectations for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, he did hope that incidents such as the deaths of civilians in Poonch would not happen again. AC gives amnesty to settle tax arrears of pre GST regime

JAMMU: Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Administrative Council (AC) convened here and approved a proposal from the Finance Department to grant amnesty for the settlement of tax arrears related to the pre-GST regime. Attending the meeting were Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, the Lieutenant Governor's principal secretary, Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary, and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, the advisor. In addition to returning the government's blocked revenue, this action will relieve tax payers by waiving interest and penalties. Due to a number of factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic, dealers were previously unable to benefit from the previous amnesty programme established by Government order no. 39-FD of 2018, dated 05/02/2018.iii) The government-to-be-notified scheme will waive the interest and penalty in (i) and (ii), provided that 100% of the principal tax is paid in the required manner and within the allotted time. iv) Resolving demands for industrial units under the Central Sales Tax Act, 1956, the J&K General Sales Tax Act, 1962 (up to 07/07/2017 and 31/08/2017 for liquor-dealing units), and the repealed J&K Value Added Tax Act, 2005 (up to 2017–18) (up to 07/07/2017), with regard to assessed/re-assessed demands, including cases that have not yet been assessed but must meet specific requirements to be notified in the scheme. The government's decision will minimise tax dispute cases and conclude pre-GST cases, among other things. Applications for this amnesty must be submitted no later than six months after the date an order in this regard is issued. Poonch Ambush | Security Forces Initiate Fresh Searches Along IB, LOC

Poonch/Jammu, Dec 27: While cordon and search operations continued for the seventh day in a row on Wednesday to find the terrorists responsible for last week's ambush that killed four soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, new searches were started along the border with Pakistan in Samba and Poonch, according to officials. In order to assess the security situation in the wake of the terror attack, Army Chief Manoj Pande, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flew to Rajouri on Wednesday.According to a senior official, "Security forces are continuing the cordon and search operation to track down the terrorists involved in the ambush on Army vehicles." Scent detection dogs, aerial mechanisms, and surveillance equipment are all part of the operation. Amidst area dominance operations, more forces have been sent in to block seven infiltration routes. For the fifth day in a row, mobile internet services in Rajouri and Poonch will be suspended. Since this morning, search operations have been conducted at three locations along the International Border (IB) in the Samba district by security forces and special operation groups, according to officials. They claimed that because of the heavy fog along the border, this has been done as a precaution.In response to reports of suspicious activity in the area, security forces in Poonch's Kirni sector have also begun new search operations along the Line of Control, they said. They said that the operations are still ongoing. Following his visit to Rajouri and Poonch to meet with the families of three civilians who were found dead during the anti-terror operation in the area, officials said the minister of defence is expected to review the security situation at a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan. They said Singh will also meet with a delegation of chosen individuals. Following the terrorist ambush of two Army vehicles on Thursday at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in Poonch, three civilians who were taken in by the Army for questioning were discovered dead on Friday, causing widespread indignation.The defence minister's visit comes after Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Manoj Pande visited Poonch's ground zero on Monday to assess the anti-terrorist operations in Surankote and the Thanamandi forest belt in the neighbouring Rajouri district. In the face of all obstacles, General Pande urged security personnel to maintain their resolve and fortitude. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has promised jobs and compensation to the relatives of the fallen civilians. It stated that the medico-legal procedures had been completed and that legal action had been started.The Army has declared its commitment to providing complete support and cooperation for the investigation's conduct, and it has ordered a comprehensive internal investigation into the civilian deaths. Suspected IED destroyed at Lawaypora on Srinagar-Baramulla highway

SRINAGAR: On Wednesday morning, the security forces at Lawaypora on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway demolished a suspected IED, briefly causing traffic on the busy route to be disrupted. The Bomb Disposal Squad was called to the scene after security personnel discovered a suspicious object on the highway that was equipped with a cylinder, according to a senior police officer. The suspicious object was destroyed with a controlled explosion for the public's safety, the officer stated. He said they were determining the nature of the suspicious object. On the National Highway, which was previously closed as a precaution, traffic has now resumed. AC approves solarisation of 4000 agri pumps under PM-KUSUM scheme

JAMMU: Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Administrative Council (AC) met here and approved the solarization of 4000 individual grid-connected agriculture pumps that are currently in use as part of Component-C of the Pradhan Mantri Kissan Urja Suraksha Evam Uthaan Mahaabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) Scheme. These pumps have a grid-connected solar power plant capacity ranging from 1kW to 15kW. Attending the meeting were Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, the Lieutenant Governor's principal secretary, Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary, and Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, the advisor. Farmers will be able to meet their irrigation needs with the solar power generated under this scheme, and any excess solar power will be sold to distribution companies (DISCOMs).In turn, the DISCOMS are required to pay the farmers for the export of unused power to the grid at the tariff set by JKSERC. In addition to reducing pollution, solarizing agricultural pumps will give farmers a dependable source of irrigation through solar-powered pumps and stop revenue losses for DISCOMs due to powering electrical irrigation pumps at subsidised energy tariffs of Rs 0.66/-per unit compared to an average power purchase tariff of Rs 3.50/-per unit.
