Delhi wakes up to dense haze as air quality turns ‘severe’ at many locations

NEW DELHI: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in a number of Delhi neighbourhoods fell into the "severe" category on Friday morning, with Mundka having the highest Air Quality Index (498). The national capital's skyline was shrouded in a thick cloud as the air quality declined. The AQI was reported at 438 in the Lodhi Road area, 491 in Jahangirpuri, 486 in the RK Puram region, and 473 in IGI Airport (T3), according to the CPCB. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a technique for effectively and understandably communicating to the public the state of the air quality. It reduces complex data on the quality of the air caused by different pollutants to a single number (the index value), colour, and nomenclature.When the AQI is between 0 and 100, it is considered good; when it is between 100 and 200, it is considered moderate; when it is between 200 and 300, it is considered poor; when it is between 300 and 400, it is said to be very poor; and when it is between 400 and 500 or more, it is said to be severe; this has an influence on both healthy people and those who already have disorders. Additionally, the AQI dropped to the "severe" category at several different Noida locales, with Sectors 62, 1 and 116 recording 483, 413 and 415, respectively. On Thursday, the government of Delhi issued an order closing all public and private elementary schools for the next two days. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) activated the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Thursday due to the deteriorating quality of the air. When the AQI falls between 401 and 450 points and reaches Severe, the GRAP moves into Stage III. The state government may impose severe limitations on BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in specific locations as part of its reaction to combat pollution. It may also stop in-person instruction for students in primary grades up to Class 5. Since then, primary school lessons have been suspended by the Delhi government.The subcommittee examined the regional air quality scenario in addition to the IMD and IITM projections for the weather and air quality index. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) released an official statement stating that the Delhi government has prohibited construction work throughout the National Capital Region (NCR). The announcement went on to say that exceptions had been granted for projects pertaining to interstate bus terminals, airports, metro services, railway services, defense-related operations, healthcare-related activities, etc.The official statement also stated that the government will guarantee daily watering and dust suppressant application, as well as increase the frequency of automated road sweeping. Drilling and boring as well as other earthmoving operations related to excavation and filling will not be permitted. According to the official announcement, mining, stone crushing, and non-essential construction work have all been banned in the area. LG launches Srinagar Smart City’s 100 Electric Buses under Srinagar Electric Bus Project

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha fired off a fleet of 75 E-Buses at Nishat Bus Terminal, launching the 100 Electric Buses under the Srinagar Electric Bus Project for the Srinagar Smart City. From 8 AM to 8 PM, e-buses will operate on 15 intra-city routes and 2 inter-city routes, covering a minimum of 200 kilometres daily. The Lieutenant Governor congratulated the citizens of Srinagar and the surrounding regions as well as the Srinagar Smart City Limited on this momentous occasion in his speech. Our main goal is smart mobility, which maximises transport services in a way that balances ecological and harmony. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's objective, adding 100 e-buses is a significant step towards achieving carbon neutrality, the Lieutenant Governor stated.According to him, the Srinagar Smart City Limited is bringing the idea of "modal shift" to life by using an integrated approach to give people easy access to mobility while also promoting social sustainability. According to the Lieutenant Governor, the e-buses dedicated to the people today will guarantee that office workers and everyday commuters have access to a dependable, reasonably priced, environmentally friendly and secure public transportation system for Srinagar City and the surrounding areas. He gave the officials instructions to make sure the e-bus charging stations are operational all year round.At the inaugural event, the Lt. Governor thanked the Central Government for its cooperation and support in enhancing urban mobility in the UT. He stated that the dream of Metro Rail in Srinagar and Jammu will soon come true. The HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), emergency stop capability, CCTV, and universal access are all installed on the e-buses. For passenger convenience, a specialised mobile app and an online ticket payment system have been created.The Integrated Command & Control Centre of Srinagar Smart City is connected to every bus. KISHTWAR: In an admirable and proactive move, Chief Medical Officer Dr. M.Y Mir and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Devansh Yadav of Kishtwar today sent necessary medical supplies and heating equipment to Marwah and Warwan Zone in anticipation of the approaching winter. DGP Dilbag inaugurates additional facilities at Police Hospital Jammu

JAMMU: Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police, visited Police Hospital Jammu and inaugurated several new facilities while accompanied by Dr. Rubinder Kaur, the Chairperson of Police Wives Welfare Association (PWWA). Officers in attendance were Anand Jain, IGP Armed Jammu, M N Tiwari, DIsG Shreedhar Patil, Sarah Rizvi, and Nisha Nathyal, as well as IGP Jammu Zone. 111 fresh dengue cases reported in Jammu

JAMMU: On Saturday, a total of 11 new dengue cases were recorded from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the overall number of cases this year to 4170. According to a health official, 73 instances from Jammu district alone were recorded today. Udhampur and Kathua districts reported 8 cases apiece, Samba reported 7, Doda reported 6, Rajouri and Kishtwar reported 3, Reasi reported 2, and J&K reported 2. He said that 98 adults and 13 children are among the positive patients. According to him, the Jammu district has recorded the most cases—2765—followed by Udhampur district (513 cases), Kathua (331 cases), and Samba (271 cases)."There were 77 cases in Rajouri, 45 in Ramban, 42 in Reasi, 36 in Doda, 25 in Poonch, 7 in Kishtwar, 22 in Kashmir and 32 from other parts of the country," added the official. The official added that although dengue has already claimed four lives this season, a total of 1334 people have been hospitalised to hospitals; of these, 1206 have been discharged and 92 are currently receiving treatment. The official declared, "There are more and more instances of dengue every day. Citizens should make sure there is no standing water inside or outside their homes, as this is where the insects that cause dengue thrive. NEW DELHI: After the Jammu-Srinagar line is operational, Vande Bharat services are anticipated to be launched in Srinagar later this fiscal year, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Thursday. 1 dead, 3 injured in road accident in Doda

DODA: Officials said today that a road accident in Bulandpur village, Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, had left one person dead and three injured. According to an official, a car with the licence plate JK06B 6028 was involved in an accident close to Khasal while travelling to Charota Bulandpur. He claimed that after being pulled from the automobile in serious condition, the four occupants were sent to a nearby Assar medical facility, where one of them was pronounced dead. Maneel Kumar, son of Choor Singh of Nagvas Assar, was identified as the deceased. Santa Kumar, son of Prem Singh (23), Sandesh Kumar, son of Nek Raj of Nagvaash Thandapani (28), and Mukesh Kumar, son of Chali Singh (22), all of Sanga Charota, were identified as the injured individuals. Punjab Police nabs operative of Goldy Brar & Lawrence Bishnoi gang

CHANDIGARH: An operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang was detained by the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) on Wednesday. The operative and other members of the gang were allegedly plotting to attack targets that their international supervisors had assigned them. Twelve live rounds and four firearms were also found in the accused's possession by the police. "A significant development has occurred with the arrest of Sachin @ Bacchi, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi & Goldy Brar gang, by AGTF-Punjab.The accused was involved in giving the gang members' hideouts and logistical support," Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, wrote on X. NEW DELHI, Oct 17 : After reviewing the campaign's progress at the end of the first two weeks, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, revealed that the Government had generated an impressive sum of more than Rs 117 crore in the first two weeks of the ongoing Special Swachhata Campaign 3.0, just by disposing of scrap. According to the Minister, this has also led to the elimination of garbage and the creation of 32.54 lakh square feet of usable office space, which has since been cleared and made accessible for use.While evaluating the developments of Week 2 of Special Campaign 3.0 here today, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), being the nodal agency. He was grateful for the advancements made in reducing pending cases and institutionalising Swachata during the campaign, which is being carried out at all national government buildings from October 2–14, 2023.According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, there is widespread participation among Ministries, Departments, and their field/outstation offices. He emphasised once more that the campaign's main objective is to cover offices with public interaction. 1 more dies of dengue, 119 fresh cases reported

JAMMU: Dengue has claimed one more life, and 119 further cases of the vector-borne illness have been reported from various locations in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the year's total to 3271 cases and four fatalities. According to a health official, Tejpal Pratap, a 20-year-old boy from Bihar who was residing in CTM Colony Kathua on October 10, passed away from dengue in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. He claimed the patient was sent to GMCH Jammu on October 10 after being diagnosed with dengue fever on October 3 at GMC Kathua. He added that with this passing, there have now been four deaths related to the vector-borne illness this year. "This is the fourth death in Jammu province and the first in Kathua district," he said. The official added that 119 of the 828 people who had been tested for dengue today had tested positive. Out of the 119 positive cases, 66 instances were reported from the Jammu district, followed by 26 cases in Udhampur, 11 cases in Kathua, 6 cases in Samba, 4 cases in Reasi, 3 cases in Doda, 2 cases in Poonch, and 1 case in Ramban. 98 people and 21 kids are among the individuals who tested positive, he continued. According to him, out of the total 2234 cases documented so far, the majority are from the Jammu district, followed by the Udhampur district (348 cases), Kathua (249 cases), and Samba (218 cases). "There were 64 cases in Rajouri, 31 in Reasi, 30 in Ramban, 24 in Doda, 23 in Poonch, 4 in Kishtwar, 15 in Kashmir and 27 from other parts of the country," added the official. The official added that a total of 1094 dengue patients had been hospitalised to the hospitals as of now, and that 962 of them had been released while 101 were still receiving treatment. The official stated that "the number of dengue cases is increasing every day" and recommended the public to prevent stagnant water from forming in and around their homes because this is where the mosquitoes that transmit dengue thrive. He advised covering water-filled tanks and kitchenware, as well as emptying the cooler twice a week.
