DGP reviews railway security in J&K

JAMMU: On Wednesday, RR Swain, the Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir, carried out a thorough assessment of the Government Railway Police's (GRP) operations and railway security in the Union Territory. While chairing an officers' meeting at the GRP Headquarters in Jammu, Swain stressed the importance of improving surveillance capabilities by recognising and resolving shortcomings at all levels, especially supervisory. Swain gave officers instructions to look into previous incidents more thoroughly, find out the whereabouts and current status of those involved, and look into the underlying causes. He reminded the officers to be thorough and curious in their investigations, and to look at every angle and possibility. In order to conduct effective searches and acquire intelligence, the DGP emphasised the value of utilising technology, particularly the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). In response to concerns, he stressed the need to tighten security measures at train stations and the areas around them in order to stop the transfer of explosives, weapons, and drugs. Swain called for improved preventive and detective capabilities, emphasising enforcement, investigation, and intelligence gathering, while acknowledging the efforts that have already been made. He advised officers to take a shrewd approach to resource projection and to identify resources for funding. During the meeting, Sunil Kumar, ADGP Railways, gave a thorough presentation that outlined the roles of several forces, including the police, GRP, RPF, CAPFs, and private agencies.Stakeholder roles, the administrative and structural design of GRP, and the security strategy for the 111-kilometer Katra-Banihal Section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line were among the topics discussed. DGP RR Swain also sowed a sapling in the GRP Headquarters' lawns as a sign of environmental awareness. Along with the Special Officer to ADGP Railway, senior superintendents of police from GRP in Jammu, Kashmir, and Katra, as well as DIG Railways Haseeb-ur-Rehman and DIG Traffic Shridhar Patil, attended the meeting. 21 animals burnt alive as cattle shed gutted in fire

UDHAMPUR: At village Surni in tehsil Ramnagar, an unfortunate incident occurred where a cattle shed caught fire and was completely destroyed, burning 21 domestic animals to death. According to reports, Yodhu Ram, the son of Lakhu, a resident of Surni, owned the animal shed where the fire started on the intervening night of December 19–20. The cattle shed was completely destroyed before the owner and the villagers could put out the fire, killing four cows, four oxen, two calves, and fifteen sheep that were buried beneath the rubble. The local villagers have petitioned the government to compensate the impoverished Yodhu Ram, and the police have filed a report and started an investigation into the issue. CS accorded rousing welcome at Srinagar Secretariat

Dec-20 : Hundreds of workers greeted Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo with great enthusiasm today when he arrived at the Srinagar Civil Secretariat for the first time since taking over the position earlier this month. Atal Dulloo, an IAS officer from the 1989 batch, spent the majority of his tenure in J&K. He has previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of multiple J&K districts in addition to holding the position of Administrative Secretary in numerous significant departments, such as Finance, Agriculture, and Health & Medical Education. He was instrumental in the creation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), which aims to transform the agriculture sector by significantly increasing farmers' income, while serving as J&K's Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture Production Department, prior to being promoted to the position of Chief Secretary.Hundreds of workers welcomed the Chief Secretary when he arrived at the Srinagar Secretariat this afternoon, and they all filed into his office chamber together. Subsequently, he visited the Secretariat and engaged with staff members across various departments. He asked them about their jobs and the other resources at their disposal to ensure the efficient execution of their official duties. Cong receives Rs 2.81 cr within 48 hrs of launching crowdfunding campaign

NEW DELHI: Within 48 hours of starting its crowdfunding campaign, the Congress received Rs 2.81 crore from more than 1.13 lakh donors. Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge launched the "Donate for Desh" crowdsourcing campaign on Monday with a Rs 1.38 lakh donation. Although UPI accounted for 80% of the money donated to the party, sources claimed that the Congress app had been the target of up to 20,000 cyberattacks. They said that the majority of cyber attacks originated overseas and that 1,340 of them involved data theft. According to the sources, in the first 48 hours, over 1,13,700 people gave to the party, totaling Rs 2.81 crore.More than Rs 1 lakh has been donated by thirty-two individuals, including senior party leaders and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. According to the sources, the Congress will use more creative methods to raise money before the 2e024 Lok Sabha elections, including selling memorabilia like t-shirts, mugs and caps autographed by Gandhi. Maharashtra (Rs 56 lakh), Rajasthan (Rs 26 lakh), Delhi (Rs 20 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (Rs 19 lakh), and Karnataka (Rs 18 lakh) are among the states that have contributed the most. Although a lot of people have donated in Bihar, the total amount is not very high, according to a party leader. According to him, the party wants to connect as many people with the Congress and reach out to an increasing number of people through the campaign. More than one crore people have accessed the application, according to the sources, who also mentioned that the crowdfunding would pick up steam during a rally scheduled for December 28 in Nagpur to commemorate the party's founding day. To intensify the campaign, the Congress will shortly designate observers in a number of states. In addition to Kharge and Gandhi, other individuals who contributed more than Rs 1 lakh included Ashok Gehlot, C P Joshi, Sushilkumar Shinde, Devender Yadav, Pawan Khera, Jairam Ramesh, Niranjan Pattanayak, and Pariniti Shinde.The campaign was started on the 138th anniversary of the Congress's founding. Centre Hands Over 324 Cases To NIA In Last Five Years: MHA To Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 20: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Central government has sent 324 cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over the previous five years. In response to a member's inquiry, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanad Rai provided the details in writing. According to the Minister, the NIA received these 324 cases between December 1, 2018, and November 30, 2023. After weighing the seriousness of the cases, the MHA turned the cases over to the NIA, which specialises in looking into terror-related incidents nationwide as well as other matters under its purview.In response to a question concerning the number of cases in which verdicts have been rendered by courts over the past five years and the number of cases in which the accused has been found guilty, the Ministry of State provided data that, between December 1, 2018, and November 30, 2023, showed 84 cases in which judgements were rendered and 81 cases in which the accused were found guilty. The data shows that as of November 30 of this year, there were a total of 15 cases in which a judgement was rendered. These cases were followed by 31 in 2022, 15 in 2021, 9 in 2020, and 14 in 2019.
