Amit Shah likely to visit Jammu on 9 Jan

JAMMU: On January 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to travel to Jammu to assess the state of security in J&K, paying special attention to Rajouri and Poonch. According to official sources, "The office of Union Home Minister has yet to confirm the schedule of his likely visit, which, in any case, is subject to fair weather conditions." He will arrive in Jammu immediately after to chair a high-level security review meeting, as per the provisional schedule. If the weather is favourable, he might travel to the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch to obtain a firsthand account of the situation there. Before concluding his visit, he might also have discussions with senior J&K BJP leaders and officer-bearers, according to sources.BJP insiders stated, "There were tidings about his probable visit. The Union Home Minister presided over a review meeting on the security status of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on January 2 in the union capital following a recent terror attack there. Attendees at the meeting included Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary, Chief (IB), Heads of CAPFs, Chief Secretary, and DGP of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. In order to neutralise the threat of terrorism, Shah had reviewed the security agencies' area dominance plan for Jammu and Kashmir during the meeting. JAMMU: While listening to the concerns raised by the District Development Council (DDC) Chairpersons of the Jammu division today, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo promised them that the LG Administration would do everything within its power to support this democratic institution in the UT. The commissioner secretary for housing and urban development and the principal secretary for finance from the RDD departments were also present at this meeting. These Chairpersons jointly presented a memo to the Chief Secretary for his consideration during this meeting. They also brought up with him the matters concerning their individual districts in order to get an early resolution. The demands made by the council chairs regarding the revalidation of their grant savings for the purpose of implementing additional welfare initiatives in their respective constituencies were brought up.Additionally, they each requested additional funding for projects that were being carried out in their districts. With an emphasis on creating job opportunities for young people, these representatives also worked to resolve other developmental requirements in their respective areas. JAMMU:A meeting to review the implementation of the Financial Assistance Scheme for Displaced Persons and West Pakistani Refugees was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today. Provincial Rehabilitation Officer Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Deputy Commissioners from Jammu were present. The District Committee gathered information on beneficiaries by district from the corresponding Deputy Commissioners regarding cases that have been approved and those that are still pending. The Div Com instructed the Deputy Commissioners to oversee the implementation process personally and urged them to saturate the Scheme with all eligible beneficiaries. "Spread mass awareness among the targeted beneficiaries to ensure that the benefits reach to the last person in the queue" he stated.To identify and address any bottlenecks, the Div Com requested that the DCs call a meeting with all relevant parties, including the DPs and West Pakistani Refugees. The DCs were also instructed by the Div Com to conduct camps in the areas where the targeted population resides and to designate senior officers in their office. Indian Navy rescues all 21 crew of hijacked vessel off Somalia coast

NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy successfully evacuated all 21 crew members, including 15 Indian nationals, from the hijacked vessel MV Lila Norfolk off the coast of Somalia on Friday following a high-stakes drama at sea. "The Indian Navy Reacted Quickly to the MV Lila Norfolk's Hijacking Attempt in the North Arabian Sea." The 21 crew members—including the 15 Indians—safely left the citadel. The hijackers' absence has been verified by MARCO sanitation, the Indian Navy said in a statement. The statement stated that the pirates' attempt at hijacking was likely abandoned after receiving a strong warning from the Indian Navy, MPA, about possible interception by Indian Naval warships. While the MV is in the area, INS Chennai is providing assistance to restart the power generation and propulsion so that the ship can move on to her next port of call. The elite Marine Commandos of the Indian Navy are still sanitising other areas of the ship, military officials told ANI. Officials say that MARCOS did not find any pirates on the stolen ship. The crew that was saved has reported that during the attempted hijack, the pirates opened fire on the ship, and they all took refuge in the citadel. Friday at 3:15 p.m., INS Chennai deviated from her Anti-Piracy patrol and intercepted the MV. "The MV was continuously monitored with the help of Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Predator MQ9B, and integral helos." The earlier statement from the Indian Navy said that the Marine Commandos of the Indian Navy, who were present on board the Mission Deployed warship, boarded the MV and started the Sanitization process. Defence officials said that in a separate development, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar ordered Indian warships operating in the Arabian Sea to take "strictest possible action" against the pirates. Earlier, the Indian naval warship INS Chennai approached the pirate-occupied ship MV Lila Norfolk off the coast of Somalia and ordered the pirates to leave the ship. The authorities had earlier disclosed that the merchant vessel MV Lila Norfolk, which was sailing from Port Du Aco in Brazil to Khalifa Bin Salman in Bahrain, had been taken over by pirates 300 nautical miles east of Somalia. Following notification of a message on the UKMTO portal indicating boarding by five to six unknown armed personnel on Thursday evening, the Indian Navy's Mission Deployed Platforms reacted quickly to the attempted hijacking on board a bulk carrier flying the Liberian flag, the Indian Navy said in a statement. The Indian Navy responded to the situation by diverting INS Chennai, which was stationed for maritime security operations, to assist the vessel, and launching a Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA). BARAMULLA: According to an official statement, Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have busted a narco module in the Baramulla district of the state after apprehending five drug dealers, including a woman. According to the report, the police also found illegal substances in the accused's possession. The accused are Bakir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Chandsooma Kanispora, and Sharik Ahmad Sheikh, Sharif Ahmad Sheikh, Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, and Muskaan Bano, all of whom reside in DewanBagh Baramulla. NEW DELHI: According to sources, the Delhi Police believes that the terrorist from Hizbul Mujahideen who was apprehended on Thursday is a component of a larger plot to attack more police officers in Jammu and Kashmir. Javaid Ahmad Matoo, a terrorist classified as "A++" by the Delhi Police Special Cell, was apprehended on Thursday. He was wanted in relation to 11 terror attack cases, including five grenade attacks and the deaths of at least five police officers in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. He had a Rs 10 lakh reward on him. According to police sources, Matoo is suspected of using the nation's capital as a hub to travel from Pakistan to the valley through Nepal. However, he is still being questioned by the officials regarding his last stop before arriving in Delhi.It has been reported that Matoo is proficient with the AK-47, under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). "His aim is extremely precise," an official stated, possibly having picked this up during training. He was taken into custody by the Delhi Police Special Cell on Thursday from Nizamuddin, carrying a loaded pistol and an extra magazine. When he was captured, according to the police, he was operating a stolen vehicle. He has been charged with conspiracy and the Arms Act by the Delhi Police. Delhi Court Sends Hizbul Mujahideen Terrorist To 7-Day Police Custody

NEW DELHI, Jan 5: A local court on Friday detained a suspected terrorist from Hizbul Mujahideen for seven days, accusing him of being involved in eleven terror attack cases in Jammu and Kashmir. Javaid Ahmad Matoo, 32, was taken into custody by the Delhi Police's Special Cell on Thursday in the nation's capital. On an application made by the Delhi Police, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Nabeela Wali placed Matoo under custody for a week after he appeared in court. The accused was taken into custody in Delhi's Nizamuddin neighbourhood. He was a highly indoctrinated terrorist with a reward of Rs 10 lakh. When he was caught, the police claimed he was operating a stolen vehicle.According to the police, Matoo is connected to "11 known terror attack cases," which include five grenade attacks and the deaths of at least five police officers in different incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
