At a press conference on Friday, Hardeep Singh Puri stated, "Gaganyaan projects aim to demonstrate human space flight capability and India promises man on the moon by 2040." The goal of the Gaganyaan project is to demonstrate the capability of human spaceflight by sending a crew of three people into a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission, and then safely returning them to Earth by landing in Indian waters. India will become the fourth country, after the US, Russia, and China, to launch a manned space mission with the help of this programme. The Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) was commended earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reaching yet another technological milestone in space.
