Sonia Gandhi Files Nomination For Rajya Sabha Elections From Rajasthan

Jaipur, Feb 14: Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, submitted her nomination on Wednesday for the Rajya Sabha election from Rajasthan. In attendance were state party president Govind Singh Dotasra, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, party MP Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Sonia Gandhi, the head of the Congress Parliamentary Party, served as the party's president for nearly twenty-two years, from 1998 to 2022. She is an Uttar Pradesh native who has been a member of the Lok Sabha five times. The Rajya Sabha nomination process is underway ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are anticipated to take place in April and May of this year.Rajasthan has ten seats in the Rajya Sabha. Three State seats are up for grabs in the next biennial elections. Based on their relative strengths in the State Assembly, the ruling BJP is expected to receive two seats, while the opposition Congress is expected to receive one. The two BJP contenders are Madan Rathore, a former Sumerpur MLA, and Chunnilal Garasiya, a former minister and vice president of the BJP State. In the 200-member State Assembly, the BJP has 115 MLAs while the Congress has 70. In the case of a battle, one Rajya Sabha seat will require a minimum of 67 votes to be won.Manmohan Singh, the former prime minister, will retire in April of this year. He was most recently elected from Rajasthan to the Rajya Sabha. This April, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav's term will expire. In addition, Kirodi Lal Meena of the BJP resigned, leaving one Rajya Sabha seat in the State empty. The initial slate of candidates for the next Rajya Sabha Biennial Elections, which will take place in several states, was released by the Congress party on Wednesday."Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of Sonia Gandhi from Rajasthan and Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh from Bihar," reads an official statement from the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Chandrakant Handore from Maharashtra and Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Himachal Pradesh have also been fielded. February 15 is the deadline for submitting nomination materials. Members of the Rajya Sabha have a six-year term, and elections are held for 33% of the seats every two years. There are 245 members of the Rajya Sabha at the moment.Twelve of the 245 members are presidentially nominated, while 233 of the members are representatives of the States and Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, and Puducherry (as of October 31, 2019). Twelve veterans in the fields of science, art, literature, athletics, and other fields have been personally nominated by the President. Each state is allotted a specific number of representatives to the Upper House based on its population. AYODHYA: On Tuesday, a sizable crowd of devotees gathered at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya to receive a darshan of Lord Ram. Kirti Acharya, a devotee from Ahmedabad, had intense feelings when he was in Ayodhya. "Our origin is Ahmedabad. It was an amazing sight. My eyes began to flood up with tears as I realised that, after 500 years, a temple this magnificent had been constructed and stood tall, signifying the triumph of Sanatan (eternal) principles. President gives assent to J&K Scheduled Tribes Amendment Act 2024

JAMMU: The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Act, 2024 has received the assent of the Indian President. "The following Act of Parliament received the Assent of the President on February 12, 2024, and is hereby published for general information," according to a gazette statement released by the Ministry of Law and Justice. "An Act to further to Amendment the Constitution (J&K) Scheduled Tribes Order 1989; Be it enacted by Parliament in the 75th year of the Republic of India; this Act may be called Constitution (J&K) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Act 2024." The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 has already received approval from Parliament. By granting Scheduled Tribe classification, the historic bill seeks to empower the following groups: (i) Pahari Ethnic Group; (ii) Padari Tribes; (iii) Koli; and (iv) Gadda Brahmin. These communities have been requesting this for a very long time. Two Pakistan-trained terrorists chargesheeted in Jammu

JAMMU: Two terrorists who were arrested in this area upon their return from Pakistan through Nepal more than 13 years ago have charges brought against them by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday, according to officials. According to a police spokesman, the chargesheet against Abdul Waris of Kishtwar and Masrat Hussain of Doda was submitted in a case filed under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the court of the third additional sessions judge (NIA), Jammu.He added that after their arrest at the Jammu train station on October 25, 2010, the case was filed at the Banu Fort police station. They were found in possession of Rs 50,000 each and evidence of anti-national activities, including printed letterpads from terror groups that were outlawed. According to the spokesman, during interrogation, they admitted to having crossed the Line of Control illegally from the Poonch region, staying in Pakistan for more than ten years, and receiving armaments training. He claimed that they had returned to Jammu and Kashmir via Nepal to join active terrorists on the orders of the leaders of the outlawed Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).According to the speaker, the money taken from them was intended to be given to the youth of Doda and Kishtwar for use in terrorist activities. He stated that the accusations made against the defendants were verified throughout the course of the inquiry, and at last, a chargesheet was submitted to the court for a decision. J&K Gun license scam: Jammu court seeks presence of 21 accused on next date of hearing

JAMMU: The appearance of 21 accused in a case concerning the alleged granting of illicit arms licences in Jammu and Kashmir between 2012 and 2016 was demanded by a special court for CBI cases here on Monday. After hearing a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate's Jammu wing through special public prosecutor Ashwani Khajuria under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Special Judge anti-corruption Bala Jyoti delivered the decision. "Carried over the complaint in its entirety and reviewed all available documentation, which indicates that the accused person appears to have committed offences (under PMLA) at least on the surface, prompting the issuance of a process to secure their presence.In a four-page judgement, the court stated, "The office is directed to issue notices to the accused for appearance and for filing their reply on the next date of hearing." According to the ruling, S K Bhat, the attorney, made a request to postpone the CBI's taking of cognizance of the ED complaint dated 2020 until after the agency has provided a status report on the offences that served as the basis for the complaint and the CBI court has received the final report under the J&K CrPC. The court stated that a copy of the same is sent to the opposing side for a thorough response. "Let this matter come up again on April 26 for appearance of all accused persons and for further proceedings," it said. The August 2018 FIR of the CBI (special crime branch, Chandigarh) alleges that there was a bulk issuing of arms licences in Jammu and Kashmir between 2012 and 2016. This leads to the criminal case of money laundering. By "flouting" the established guidelines and due process in lieu of "illicit" monetary consideration that was paid to government officers/officials through arms dealers/brokers and generated proceeds of crime, the ED claims that approximately 2.78 lakh arms licences were issued to various defence and paramilitary personnel. A month earlier, the ED conducted searches against an IAS officer, a few Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officers and government officials, and arms dealers. In April 2022, the ED attached assets worth Rs 4.69 crore under the anti-money laundering law. The agency claimed to have found "incriminating" records that purportedly showed interactions between gun sellers and officials in the process of issuing unauthorised arms licences in Jammu and Kashmir between 2012 and 2016. "Government functionaries of J&K in connivance with many arms dealers, brokers of J&K have brazenly flouted the norms, procedure and rules for issuing arms licences in lieu of monetary considerations by abuse of their official position as public servants and generated huge proceeds of crime," according to the ED. IAS officer Rajeev Ranjan, a former DC from Kupwara, and KAS officer Itrat Hussain, a former DC from Kupwara, are among the suspects in this case. The CBI detained them in 2020. Retail Inflation Eases To 3-Month Low Of 5.1 Pc In Jan

New Delhi, Feb 12: Official data issued on Monday showed that retail inflation declined to a three-month low of 5.1% in January, primarily due to decreasing food prices. According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), the rate of inflation was 5.69 percent in December 2023 and 6.52% in January 2024. Inflation peaked in August 2023 at 6.83 percent. The National Statistical Office (NSO) published data showing that retail inflation in the food basket decreased to 8.3% in January 2024 from 9.3% in the previous month.The government has given the Reserve Bank of India the mandate to guarantee that retail inflation stays at 4% with a margin of 2% on each side. Rozgar Mela: PM says his government made recruitment exercise transparent

NEW DELHI: As he distributed over a lakh appointment letters on Monday as part of the Rozgar Mela programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his government had made the recruitment process transparent and completed it within a set timeframe to ensure that every youth had an equal opportunity to showcase their capabilities. According to PM Modi, his administration has shortened the period of time between the application day and the final distribution of the employment letter. "In previous administrations, it used to take a long time to receive an appointment letter after submitting an application.Bribery using the interim periods was commonplace. The employment application procedure is now transparent thanks to the efforts of our administration, and we strive to finish it on time. Every young person now has an equal chance to show off their abilities thanks to this, PM Modi stated. The 'Rozgar Mela' was introduced by Prime Minister Modi on October 22, 2022, signalling the start of the drive to create 10 lakh government jobs. "The hiring procedure is now open to the public thanks to our government. We strive to complete the hiring process in a predetermined amount of time so that each candidate has an equal chance to demonstrate his skills," he stated. He claimed that since 2014, his government has worked to integrate young people and enable them to play a role in the development of the country."Every government official plays a crucial role in the Viksit Bharat path. We shall get new vitality from the one lakh new recruits who joined us today. Your efforts will be focused on nation-building regardless of the department you join," he stated. NEW DELHI, Feb 12: Shahnaz Ganai, a former MLC from Jammu and Kashmir, joined the BJP on Monday, and the leaders of the ruling party praised her efforts on behalf of women and Scheduled Tribes in the area. Ganai added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration has improved the lives of many, and she is pleased with his "sabka saath sabka vikas" ideology.
