New Delhi, Dec 14: November saw the fastest rate of increase in wholesale price-based inflation in eight months, rising by 0.26 percent, mostly as a result of a significant increase in food prices. For the previous seven months, the WPI inflation rate has been negative, and in October it was (-) 0.52%. The Commerce and Industry Ministry released a statement saying, "Positive rate of inflation in November, 2023 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, minerals, machinery & equipment, computer, electronics & optical products, motor vehicles, other transport equipment and other manufacturing etc." From 2.53 percent in October to 8.18% in November, food inflation increased.A spike in food prices in November caused retail or consumer price-based inflation to rise at its fastest rate in three months, according to official data released earlier this week at 5.55 percent. In its bi-monthly monetary policy announcement last week, the Reserve Bank raised concerns about rising food inflation in November and December while keeping interest rates unchanged. Army rescues over 1,200 stranded tourists in Sikkim

GANGTOK: According to officials on Thursday, the Indian Army has rescued 1,217 tourists who were stuck in high-altitude regions of eastern Sikkim because of snowfall and bad weather. The tourists were relocated to safer areas, given shelter, warm clothing, medical attention, and hot meals, and the rescue operation by the army's Trishakti Corps lasted until late in the evening on Wednesday, they said. The officials stated that plans are in place for them to return to Gangtok, the state capital. They said that soldiers even left their barracks to make room for the stranded tourists. NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to bring up the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha for discussion and eventual passing on Thursday, the day the Parliament meets for the eleventh day of the current Winter Session. The goal of the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 is to give women's seats in the Puducherry Assembly a 33 percent reservation. On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha already passed the legislation. IGP reviews crime, security scenario of Jammu district

JAMMU: Anand Jain, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Jammu Zone, led a thorough review of the district's security and crime situation during a comprehensive meeting. The goal of the meeting, which was attended by SSPs, SDPOs, and SHOs from the Jammu District, was to increase the efficacy of overall police. The SSP for Jammu, Dr. Vinod Kumar, received the IGP along with DIG JSK Range, Shakti Pathak, who examined the resolution of cases filed in the current year and evaluated the backlog from the previous year. IGP Anand Jain stressed to the officials that cases must be handled quickly in order to lower pendency. Keeping law and order, preventing crime, resolving pending cases, and guaranteeing prompt investigation and case resolution were all topics of discussion.Special focus was placed on resolving public complaints and enhancing public-police relations. The topic of the meeting was counterinsurgency initiatives to strengthen law and order and security. The IGP evaluated counterterrorism efforts and presented strategies to reduce the district's crime rate. Improving the calibre of investigations was the main goal, especially when it came to theft, burglaries, the NDPS Act, and other cases. Jain emphasised the significance of enhancing investigative methods to guarantee convictions, with a particular focus on cases covered by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He gave the nodal officers instructions to designate cases in accordance with the UAPA's established procedure, guaranteeing prompt submission for judicial review. Dr. Vinod Kumar, SSP Jammu, gave a thorough Power Point presentation on the district's general security situation. The talk addressed the general state of crime and how it is addressed, offering insights into the steps made to improve law and order and security. IGP Jammu emphasised during the meeting that officers and officials must work professionally and that the calibre of their investigations must never be compromised. Officers were exhorted to expedite the resolution of pending cases and oversee matters within their jurisdictions effectively. The directive sought to improve overall policing efficiency and offer relief to the general public.
