JAMMU: According to sources, the Union Home Minister will visit Jammu on Tuesday. While there, he would attend several activities pertaining to development and launch the city’s e-bus service. Shah is making his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir after militants at Poonch on December 21 ambushed two army trucks, killing five troops and wounding two more. Outrage was sparked when the remains of three civilians were discovered a day later in the Poonch district, not far from the scene of the previous day’s events. According to a home ministry official, the home minister would visit Jammu on January 9 and preside over a review meeting on the complete development of Jammu and Kashmir.In addition, Shah will start an e-bus service, introduce the central government’s “Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra,” and set the groundwork for a number of development projects. According to the official, appointment letters for various government jobs would be given to the young people chosen for selection by the home minister. On January 2, Shah met in New Delhi with senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the federal government to discuss the security situation in the region. During that meeting, he gave the go-ahead to bolster counterterrorism efforts in Jammu and Kashmir and emphasised the need to eradicate the terror ecosystem entirely.Shah emphasised that all proper protocols should be followed when handling counterterrorism activities, even as he gave advice to the security services regarding suitable deployment in areas of the Union Territory that are vulnerable. Leading representatives from intelligence and other security agencies, along with Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Manoj Pande and Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, attended the meeting.
