NEW DELHI: On Friday, leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc protested at Jantar Mantar in this city under the banner “Save Democracy.” Prominent opposition figures, such as Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi, Sitaram Yechury of the CPI-M, and others, occupied the dais to express their disapproval of the suspension of 146 opposition members of parliament from the Winter Session of Parliament, which was adjourned sine die on Thursday. Sharad Pawar, the supremo of the NCP, stated that the opposition was prepared to pay any cost to preserve democracy. Participating in the demonstration, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that the goal of the demonstration is to convey to the public that what is taking place is “wrong for the future of the country.”
