BUDGAM: During his visit to Budgam, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi presided over a review meeting where he stressed the need for a zero-tolerance approach to the drug threat. According to an official statement, the IGP’s visit was intended to supervise and enhance the district’s security and criminal justice systems. In order to establish a peaceful society, the IGP placed the highest priority on revamping the criminal justice and security systems during the meeting.He emphasised the police department’s dedication to safeguarding the community’s safety and well-being. “During the discussions, the IGP emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotic menace and urged strict action against peddlers to combat the issue of drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the district,” the press release stated. The senior police official emphasised the value of investigations and called for the swift resolution of open cases. In addition, he emphasised the necessity of bolstering police-public relations through the implementation of a public-centric strategy and promoted service-oriented policing, as this approach fosters a safer and more peaceful community by fostering trust and bridging the divide between the police and the public.According to Birdi, creative mechanisms must be used to thwart anti-social elements’ designs. “Synergy among the forces with better public cooperation and monitoring at different levels would yield better result of our efforts in maintaining peace in the region,” he stated. He emphasised that in order for efforts to be successful, the public-police bond must be strengthened at the grassroots level by resolving grievances raised by the public.
