SRINAGAR : Amit Shah Saturday laid foundation stone of ‘Balidaan Stambh’ (martyr’s memorial) at Pratap Park in the heart of the city here.According to officials, Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha placed the cornerstone for the park close to Lal Chowk, the city’s commercial centre. The memorial, a project of the Srinagar Smart City, is a tribute to the martyrs who offered their life in defence of the nation, according to the officials. Shah laid the cornerstone and then proceeded to the LG’s official residence, Raj Bhavan. Although there were strict security measures in place for the event, stores in and around the location were open, and traffic continued as usual, with the exception of a brief standstill at the stretch between Regal Crossing and Lal Chowk while Shah left the venue, according to officials. The minister for the Union paid a visit to Karan Singh, the final Yuvraj of Jammu and Kashmir, at his home, Karan Mahal. Before returning to Delhi, Shah met with a few important persons at the J&K Police Golf Course that overlooks Dal Lake.
