United Nations, Oct 25: India has said that it will not respond to Pakistan‘s mention of Kashmir in a Security Council meeting about the Israel–Gaza conflict, treating it with the disdain it merits. Ambassador R. Ravindra, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, made the comments on Tuesday in response to Pakistan’s UN ambassador, Munir Akram, bringing up Kashmir at the Security Council meeting over the Middle East crisis. “One delegation made a habitual comment before I finished, referring to Union Territories as essential and inalienable parts of my country,” Mr. Ravindra stated.“In the interest of time, I would treat these remarks with the contempt they deserve and not dignify them with a response,” Mr. Ravindra declared. Prior to this, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken addressed the Security Council, stating that all acts of terrorism, regardless of who is carrying them out—Hamas or Lashkar-e-Taiba, the terror group based in Pakistan, or individuals in Mumbai or Kibbutz Beeri—are illegal and indefensible.“We have to uphold every country’s right to self-defense and stop such atrocities from happening again. Mr. Blinken stated that “no nation in this body, nor any member of this Council, could or would tolerate the slaughter of its people.” The United Nations General Assembly and this Council have emphasised time and again that no act of terrorism is legitimate or acceptable. Blinken informed the UN Security Council, “They’re illegal and unjustifiable, whether they target individuals in Nairobi, Bali, Istanbul, Mumbai, New York, or Kibbutz Be’eri.Whether they are carried out by Hamas, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Boko Haram, Al Shabaab, ISIS, or Boko Haram, they are all illegal and indefensible. Whether the victims are singled out for their nationality, race, religion, or any other reason, they are illegal and unjustified, Mr. Blinken declared. He emphasised that it is the duty of the Security Council to condemn member nations that provide Hamas with weapons, financial support, or training, as well as “any other terrorist group that carries out such horrific acts.” It seemed that Mr. Blinken was alluding to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2001, which were carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group based in Pakistan.
