Srinagar, June 10: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma today launched a scathing attack on the INDIA bloc and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing the opposition alliance as a “gathering of fused bulbs” and accusing Abdullah of being “frustrated and confused.”The remarks came in response to Omar’s appeal to INDIA bloc constituents to join the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi seeking restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Questioning the relevance and cohesion of the opposition alliance, Sharma said the INDIA bloc lacked unity and political direction.”The INDIA bloc is a gathering of fused bulbs,” he told reporters here, claiming that several leaders associated with the alliance had repeatedly shifted positions and sent contradictory political signals.
Referring to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sharma said leaders who had distanced themselves from the alliance at different points were later seen aligning with it again, which, he said, highlighted its internal contradictions.
The BJP leader also targeted Abdullah personally, alleging that the Chief Minister was struggling to define his political course despite being in office.
“Omar Abdullah appears frustrated and confused. He should remind himself of the day he took oath and introspect,” Sharma said.
Sharma was speaking on the sidelines of the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Convention’ organised by the party to highlight the achievements of the BJP-led Central Government over the past 12 years.
He said outreach programmes under the theme “12 Saal Bemisaal” were being organised across the country to showcase the accomplishments of the Narendra Modi-led Government as it completed 12 years in office.
Describing June 10 as a historic day, Sharma noted that Prime Minister Modi had taken oath for his third term on the same date in 2024 and had gone on to become India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
Highlighting the Government’s achievements in J&K, Sharma claimed that peace and stability had improved significantly and asserted that no local Kashmiri youth had joined terrorism during the past one-and-a-half years.
He also highlighted major infrastructure projects, including the inauguration of rail connectivity to Kashmir and progress on the Zojila Tunnel, saying these initiatives had strengthened the Union Territory’s connectivity and integration with the rest of the country.Referring to the proposed Sadhna, Vailoo and Pir Ki Gali tunnels, Sharma said the projects would further improve road connectivity and enhance accessibility in remote areas.
He said welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, LPG distribution programmes and PM-KISAN had directly benefited people across the country, including those in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The achievements of the Modi Government over the past 12 years will be taken to the people through ongoing outreach programmes,” Sharma said
