RAJOURI: Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami of the Indian Army lost his life after an accidental fall while carrying out operational duties during the ongoing anti-terror Operation Sheruwali in the Gambhir Mughlan-Dorimal area of the Manjakote sector in Rajouri district.

According to officials, the officer was moving through the rugged and mountainous terrain during the operation when he reportedly lost his footing and fell from a rocky slope, sustaining critical injuries. He was immediately evacuated for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Operation Sheruwali, which has entered its 16th day, is being conducted in the dense forests of Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal following intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. Security forces have established a tight cordon and continue extensive search and combing operations to track down the militants.

The operation intensified on May 28 when heavy firing and shelling were reported in the Dorimal forest area. Additional reinforcements and logistical support were deployed to strengthen the security grid and prevent any escape attempts by the suspected terrorists through the dense forest cover.

Officials said the operation is being carried out on a large scale, with all available resources being utilized to locate and neutralize the militants. The area remains under strict surveillance as search operations continue.

Paying tribute to the fallen officer, the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps expressed profound grief over his death.

In a statement posted on X, the Corps said, “White Knight Corps and all ranks express profound grief on the untimely demise of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami, who made the supreme sacrifice while undertaking operational duties in an area marked by rugged terrain, steep cliffs and adverse weather conditions. His unwavering devotion to duty, indomitable spirit and selfless service to the Nation will remain an enduring inspiration to all ranks.”

The Corps also extended its condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Security forces have reiterated that Operation Sheruwali will continue until the area is fully sanitized and all security concerns are addressed.
