RAJOURI: On Wednesday, the third day of a cordon and search operation to find terrorists believed to be hiding in the Kalakote forest area of the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir began. Two Army personnel were hurt during a gunfight with militants on Monday, which sparked the operation. Police and security personnel are conducting a search operation in the area. However, no new contacts have been made in the region, according to a senior officer.They said that technological and surveillance tools were being employed to both maintain vigilance and find the terrorists believed to be hidden in the forested areas. Following information regarding suspicious movements, a joint team of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police roped off the Broh and Soom forest areas in Kalakote on Monday. Two Army servicemen were hurt in retaliatory fire after the terrorists fired at the forces in an effort to escape the cordon, they claimed. More troops were hurriedly dispatched after that in order to close off any potential escape routes and fortify the perimeter. The Pir Panjal valley’s border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have seen an increase in terrorist activity this year.
