SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Dec 6: Flight operations in Jammu and Kashmir were severely affected today as a total of 18 flights-including 14 operated by IndiGo and 4 by SpiceJet-were cancelled at Srinagar Airport and 4 flights-including 3 operated by IndiGo and 1 by SpiceJet-were aborted at the Jammu Airport amid continuing nationwide aviation disruptions.
Airport officials said Srinagar Airport had 64 scheduled flight movements today-32 arrivals and as many departures-while Jammu had 15 scheduled flights for the day with 10 operated by IndiGo and rest by other airlines.Further, while 10 flights were delayed in Srinagar, one was delayed in Jammu, leaving passengers facing long waiting hours and last-minute schedule changes.
At the Jammu Airport, besides the 4 cancellations and 1 delayed flight, 10 other flights also arrived or departed late by 10-15 minutes, with authorities claiming the passengers were informed well in advance about their status to ensure least inconvenience.At Srinagar Airport, IndiGo, which accounted for 36 of 64 movements, recorded the maximum 14 cancellations, while SpiceJet also cancelled 4 services.By 7:15 pm, only four flights were left to operate at Srinagar Airport, even as passenger crowds grew at the terminals.
However, the Airport authorities at both Srinagar and Jammu Airports, maintained that operations on their side remained “normal,” adding that extra arrangements had been made for stranded passengers.These included additional seating, food and beverage counters, tea and coffee kiosks, Wi-Fi, medical support and continuous updates through display boards.
