KARGIL: Omar Abdullah, vice president of the National Conference, claimed on Saturday that the BJP no longer has the moral authority to defend itself in front of the Kargil residents following the August 2019 division of Jammu and Kashmir. In a speech to supporters before the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil election on October 4, he criticised the BJP for failing to represent Muslims and for placing its MP Ramesh Bidhuri in charge of the election-bound Tonk district in Rajasthan rather than disciplining him for his “anti-Muslim speech” in the Lok Sabha. Despite making up 14% of the nation’s population, Abdullah claimed that for the first time since the country’s independence, there isn’t a single Muslim minister in the Central government. They openly display their disdain for Muslims. Before coming here to solicit for votes, they must respond to questions,” Abdullah added. They no longer possess the moral authority to face the public, We are everyone aware that women cannot wear the hijab at any time. I want to know if people running for office in Kargil under the BJP banner share the same idea,” he said. He stated, “Groundswell of support for the National Conference is making the ruling party nervous and jittery,” expressing confidence in a landslide victory in the election. The NC leader blasted the Ladakh government, claiming that “these people tried their best to stop,” but in vain, the party candidates from using the plough as their election emblem. “A savage endeavour was undertaken to eradicate the National Conference from Ladakh, and even BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal claimed that the party’s (NC’s) plough) symbol had been uprooted.It is difficult and cannot be completed quickly since Kargil residents have long-standing ties to Kashmir residents through blood and family. Together, the NC and the Congress are running for office.
