Srinagar, Oct 24: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Friday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing both parties of deceiving the public with their contradictory postures towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to reporters, Sharma alleged that while the regional parties publicly criticize and distance themselves from the BJP, their senior leaders maintain “friendly and frequent” meetings with top BJP figures in New Delhi.
“Leaders from both families – NC and PDP – have met Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Yet, they label common Kashmiris who associate with BJP as impure,” Sharma said.
He termed this conduct as political hypocrisy aimed at confusing the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “It’s acceptable when they dine with BJP leaders in Delhi, but when an ordinary Kashmiri does the same, they call it betrayal,” he added.
The LoP urged political leaders to stop spreading division and to practice honesty in their public statements. He accused both parties of working together behind the scenes to conceal their own actions from scrutiny.
“They fear transparency because the truth exposes their politics,” Sharma said, adding that recent remarks by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti were a deliberate attempt to mislead the people for electoral advantage.
