Jammu, Sep 29 : On Friday, several passengers—many of them pilgrims—were left stranded at the Jammu and Katra railway stations as a result of the cancellation and diversion of seven trains as a result of a “rail roko” agitation by farmers in various areas of Punjab. On Thursday, members of multiple farmer organisations began a three-day agitation to further their objectives, which include a compensation package for losses brought on by recent flooding, a legal guarantee to the minimum support price (MSP), and a debt forgiveness programme. Farmers camped out on train tracks in a number of locations, including Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Amritsar, as part of the protest.
