Terror Associate Held With Pistols, Ammunition From Nagrota

JAMMU, Jul 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed they have arrested a terror associate on Tuesday from TCP Naka on the Nagrota Bypass here.
The accused has been identified as Azan Hameed Gazi, son of Abdul Hameed Gazi, resident of Hilalabad, Qamarwari, Srinagar.
A police official said he was travelling from Jammu to Srinagar in a Toyota Etios (registration number HR38Z/2066) when he was intercepted by the police.
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered three pistols, three empty magazines, eight live cartridges, and two empty cartridges concealed in a handbag under the co-driver’s seat, he said.
“The accused could not produce any valid documents or licences for the recovered arms and ammunition,” said the police official.
Following the recovery, he said, the vehicle was seized and a case under FIR Number 170/2025 under section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered at Police Station Nagrota.
“The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to ascertain the origin and intended use of the weapons,” added the police official.
The officials said security forces launched a search operation in Chabba chak, Rampur and adjoining areas in Rajbagh sector of Kathua district following information about movement of two suspected persons in black dress and carrying backpacks.
The suspected persons, believed to be terrorists, were seen moving near Ujh river late Tuesday night, they said, adding the search operation is on and further details are awaited.
