SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Mehbooba Mufti, urged Prime Minister Modi to rethink his decision to eliminate additional charges on apples, walnuts, and almonds imported from the US, claiming it will have a catastrophic impact on the horticulture sector in J&K.
The removal of additional levies on US goods like apples, walnuts, and almonds among other items was announced by the administration last week. The extra fees were levied in 2019 in response to the United States increasing tariffs on specific steel and aluminium products. “GOI’s decision to eliminate extra tariffs on apples, walnuts, and almonds will be disastrous for local growers in J&K, who are already dealing with enormous losses after 2019. Hope @PMOIndia reconsiders,” the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir wrote on X. (Agencies)
