New Delhi, Aug 13: Two Baloch militants attacked a convoy of Chinese engineers working on infrastructure projects in Pakistan’s port city of Gwadar today.
According to accounts, no Pakistani civilians or Chinese engineers were hurt while the two insurgents were shot and killed.
In Gwadar, the port in the unrest-ridden Balochistan region that is being connected to China’s Xinjiang province as part of the $60 billion so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, or CPEC, a big number of Chinese are currently employed there.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which took credit for the attack today, is against Chinese developments in the area because it claims they do not benefit the local population. In the past, the BLA has also attacked initiatives connected to CPEC.
