SAMBA: In an ongoing campaign to stop the smuggling of cows, the Samba police have stopped two distinct attempts at smuggling cows, apprehended a cow smuggler, saved eight cows, and seized two cars under the jurisdiction of PS Ghagwal and PS Samba. During a vehicle check at Naka NHW Tapyal, a team from Police Station Ghagwal, commanded by SHO PS Ghagwal, reportedly signalled a car carrying the registration number JK02DA-3918 that was approaching from the Kathua side to stop for inspection. However, the motorist escaped the naka point and increased the pace of the car rather than stopping it. The car was successfully pursued and intercepted near Ghagwal Chowk by the vigilant police naka party.Six cows that were being transported illegally were discovered inside the car as it was being checked. The bovine smugglers, named as Farman Ali, son of Mohammad Rashid of Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur, have been apprehended, and the Ghagwal Police Station has received a case file (FIR No. 10/2024 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act). According to the police, more investigation is ongoing. During a surprise naka checkpoint set up near Khanwal, another team of Police Post (PP), Rakh Amb Tali, led by Incharge PP, allegedly intercepted a Scorpio car with registration number JK02X-2762 in which two bovines were discovered to be loaded cruelly and being transported illegally. Nevertheless, the car’s driver was able to flee the scene. At Police Station Samba, a case FIR No. 36/2024 U/S 188 IPC, 11 PCA Act has been recorded, and an investigation has begun.
